the reason he was killed was because he was dating me...

Has anyone seen the film "Soldier's Girl"? I just watched it and I must say that it's brilliantly done and most recommendable. The actors are very convincing (and Lee Pace is just gorgeous as Calpernia Addams), and the story really got under my skin. Which is probably because the film is based on the true story of a 21-year-old private first class ( Read more... )

Damn.
This is really sad.
I wish more people could just accept it and move on.

Exactly. I really don't understand why some people think that some other people don't have a right to be happy (or to live) just because of who they're in love with or who they are.

not to mention "playing god".
No one has the right to do that to other human beings.

Wow, this is such a horribly sad story.

It leaves me with no words (and no faith left in humanity) that this woman found someone wonderful and amazing who loved her exactly as she was (and didn't even urge her to get the operation), only to lose him in this horrible way.

I agree. (Well, no faith in a large percentage of humanity, not all of them.)

Sure, not all of them, but sadly even a lot of the "ordinary" people think that being transsexual or transgender is wrong or against nature or whatever. I mean, even gay and lesbian people have labelled Private Winchell homosexual - which tells us how much people still need to be taught/explained.

Wow, I'd never even heard of this story, and I consider myself pretty up on the feminist/ally thing. Guess not, huh ( ... )

You should definitely watch the film! It's horribly sad, but really amazing too.

People can be such idiots. I don't mean all of them, but even a lot of "ordinary" people think that being transsexual or transgender is wrong or against nature, and - as you said - even gay and lesbian activists have labelled Private Winchell homosexual even though HE WAS NOT DATING A MAN. Obviously humanity (which is in no way related to the word "humane") still has a lot to learn about this.

In general I completely fail to understand how some people can't allow other people the right to be happy as long as they don't harm anyone or break any laws. *headdesk*

(Swearing is very appropriate in this context, I think.)
