You know, I've got a t30 - it's got similar specs to a well-equipped x41, according to thinkwiki - and it runs pretty respectably. Not just in an "emacs runs" sort of way, either. I wouldn't use it for gaming or hardcore multimedia stuff, but I can, say, watch movies on it just fine.

(I know, you posted it for the humor, but I figured I'd back you up on the facts.)
