If you've ever been to MarsCon

Feb 17, 2008 00:14

Greetings All,

I know lots of my friends here on LJ are going to MarsCon, or have been?  Do you have any advice for a newcomer?  What should I watch out for?  What should I be sure not to miss?  Hook me up! =)

What should I watch out for?

Rob Balder. Consider yourself warned. And I hope you're not lactose intolerant.

Okie-dokey! =P

And by the way, I'm only intolerant of air-borne lactose. Should I still be concerned? And if so, should I fight back with some other dairy-related projectile?

The worst part about Marscon is the potential for severe weather in Bloomington MN (or Wisconsin or Iowa) on the first weekend in March. Three of the previous four years, weather was a major issue on the trip there or home and in the other year, we drove home through rain and strong winds.

Every artist at Marscon brings something special to the performance there whether it is a new twist to a song, new material, or a performance of the song by all the people who contributed towards it. If possible, stay on Sunday for the Smackdown where everyone does something unique.

P.S. By the way, people there will take the phrase "hook me up" literally and if you want that, the 13th floor on Friday or Saturday night is the best place for that. =)

Thanks for the heads up Ken! I am flying in on Thursday, and leaving Monday... so I've given myself at least a little wiggle-room just in case foul weather comes into play. Smackdown sounds like it's going to be great.

As for "hook me up" or anything else that can be taken literally, I'll be sure to watch myself. ;)

I tend to stick to the comedy music track, and the people I know from it. I am still kicking myself for missing the short pool party they did last year while I was watching one of the Guest of Honor speeches (I lost track of time and though the pool party was starting when it was actually ending).

Unless you have a car, plan on meals being the hotel restaraunt, the con suite, or something you bring with you (if someone reading this knows of a restaraunt in walking distance I don't know of, please clue me in as well).

Oh, and expect to have a LOT of fun!! And I second the warning: beware of Rob Balder, especially if these is Cheeze Whiz around.

If there is a pool party, I am SO there.

Cautionary tales of this Rob Balder are beginning to pique my curiousity,
