Movers

Surely at least some of y'all must have experience with moving companies (some of you, recent experience). So! Any recommendations for or against moving companies?

Thanks!

My obvious recommendation is to go hit up wildpaletz and the Senator. :)

Indeed :) Especially because I think their movers significantly exceeded their not-to-exceed price and broke a bunch of stuff.

Andy and I had no complaints with Atlas Van Lines, either with their packing or their moving. A few knick-knacks were broken, but they weren't worth filing a claim over. The packers arrived when they said they would and were professional and polite. The shipment arrived within the estimated time frame and the unloading went well. The move was paid for by Andy's employer, so I can't give a ballpark on their rates.

Not Bekins. So many reasons. Just don't use them.

I second this. Bekins ... I shudder from the memories.

We used "Mont/Rose Moving Systems Inc" for our in-town move a few years ago. They're a local San Jose company affiliated with Mayflower. It went fine, nothing of significance broken or disappeared, they did everything they promised, and cost came out where I expected it to. It wasn't cheap, but that's largely because we effectively moved twice -- once into storage, then 3 months later into the new house.

We had great luck with Norcal (allied) 5 years ago, as did Rob and Deborah.

It's always worth double checking your movers against movingscam.com

Posts I used (5 yrs ago) when moving out of the Northern California area:

Hope that's helpful!
