Can anyone else tell when CRTs are on in the next room, or do I just have the stupidest mutant power ever?

There has to be some kind of bio/psychological reason for it.

This follows the same phenomenon as those "kids only ringtones" and "anti-loitering" noises they were playing around with in England a few years ago. Your hearing naturally deteriorates as you age, and eventually you can't hear those tones anymore.

second the thing about white on the screen as well. my old TV, which was pretty old (early 80s with 2-13/14-83 knobs) got especially bad when the screen had a whiteout.

Yes, I have nearly always been able to do that. That was one of the things that led to my dislike of TV (aside from the general quality of TV). LCD TVs are fine for the most part though. I've long-since been able to see the refresh rate on most computer CRT displays also, it is irksome.
