No offense to any smokers out there, but most people who do smoke don't realize how much of it sticks to their clothes, and how bad second hand smoke can be on other people. It's something they are used to, and I tend to think that it's just something they grow immune to. They don't realize the smell or effects that it has on non-smokers ( Read more... )

I'm -fairly- confident that the health risks associated with 2ndhand smoke are negligible when it comes to residual smell/smoke on clothing--which isn't to downplay the discomfort or allergic reactions from that odor or residue, just making the distinction. (Personally, I'm a rare/social smoker--if I ever buy a pack, it'll be cloves, and it'll last many months.)

You're probably right. I have no idea how damaging residual second hand smoke is. I guess I assumed it was because it triggers my allergies, but probably most of damaging stuff has worn off by then. :)

Actually, this started out as specific rant against my smoking coworkers, because I was tired of suffocating after they walked by my cubicle. It just sort of mutated into my general thoughts about smoking habits. (Not the people themselves, of course.)

Ah well. That's the way my mind works. :D

I wonder if it would help to have some sort of ionizing air cleaner/freshener in your cube, between the smoking passers-by and you?

Might be a good idea. Maybe I should look into a small air ionizer or something.
