There's no good way to say someone very important to you has died. Your friends and acquaintances care in as much as they care about you but it doesn't really affect them. And yet it's somehow important to let them know. Or it is to me.

My father died this morning.

For him? I recall he had been struggling for a bit, so I hope it was as peaceful as it could possibly be. For you? I wish I could give you a giant bear hug. I'm so sorry for how hard this has been. <3

It was peaceful. And honestly for the best, I think. He couldn't even read at the end and I felt like that was the worst cruelty for someone who spent a lifetime teaching others to read.
