Thanks! I'm going to Hawaii this Saturday.

The visibility in Monterey isn't good, but luckily the water was calm, which made it fairly easy to do the skills necessary to pass.

When I think of the water in Monterey, I think of piles of fetid sea lions. I hope there are other regions for swimming!

i've always wanted to get learn and get certified, but i realize i'm a tad claustrophobic when i get underwater. hmm. so maybe it's not a good idea.

Monterey wouldn't be the place for you to learn then since even in the best of conditions, the water is murky. You might be okay in a warm water environment with very clear visibility.

Yeah, getting certified in a place like San Diego ain't half bad :)

Although, you're still at odds with the weather at times.. but most times, the visibility is good at LJ Shores!
