Yay I received an open day and interview invite for 1st March for the Geography Department, I am mighty pleased! Erm I guess I get told the interview time on the day

I take french with a girl who commutes in from god-knows-where every day - means she has to get up at six o'clock every morning to catch a train. So if you don't mind that..... : )
hmmm that would be bad, but provided trains are running ok (ok that mite be a problem sometimes) then I can get into London within about 40 mins. Thanx for ur help though. How do u find UCL in general though? good?
I commuted for.....about 4 years :) It wasn't so bad - you get used to it. To be honest, now that I live 5 seconds away, I sort of miss it - it was 2 hours a day time to myself, reading, listening to music - now that time just disappears!
Geography, I dunno - UCL's actually getting a new Geography building in the Pearson building, where Computer Science used to be. I love UCL - that's all I can tell ya!
Well if you travelled 2 hrs a day and found it ok then my situation won't be much different . I'm just glad to hear someone with enthusiasm for UCL...I think my Geography teacher is just a meanie and is really obsessed with me going to Royal Holloway????lol!
i study spanish and commute in from essex. i do find it hard. i haven't made that many friends and i think you do miss out on quite a bit. I don't really go clubbing because i dont like the idea of coming back on the tube on my own really late at night. But then i spose sometimes the time to yourself reading is quite nice xx
since september. There are pros and cons. The main pro is that it is so much cheaper.Travel is dicounted for students so it costs me like £550 for travel for the twenty weeks i have to travel in whereas some of the ppl on my course are paying £400 a month for their catered acommmodation. So more money is good but what annoys me is that some days i have like a lesson at ten in the morning then nothing til like 4 in the afternoon and i havent got anywhere to go. I just spend like hours and hours in the library.I know it will be good for me in the long run but sometimes i get soo fed up.The thing is though if id made more friends theyd prob invite me to the halls more often but i think where i go home i dont go out so much so haven't really got any close buddies, but maybe i'm just a little shy and you will make loads of friends once you get there.
I lived in halls for my first year and commuted for the rest. It worked out cheaper and I certainly have a (slightly) lower student loan debt. But I did feel like I missed out on a lot of social stuff, not being in London on particular days (and if you're commuting it's hard to work up enthusiam to come into London on days that you don't have to be) and not being able to stay out late for fear of missing the last train home.
I was thinking of applying to live in the Uni accomodation (I mite b a little late now but...) but then I wondered if there was any point in paying to live in London when I could just live at home, as u've said it will reduce my debt a bit, and I my mum will feed and water me and wash my clothes, and I'm sure I can persuade her to still pay for my highlights!lol!
Thanx, I take the point on social life and missing the last train.
