Mar 17, 2009 17:46

i have recently read Matter by Iain M Banks, has anybody else on here read any of his?  i love the way his culture space ships are named, and would love to name my next lot of rats in a similar way.

if you havent read them this will  mean nothing, and i apologise for that.

The only book of his that I have read is The Wasp Factory - very good and more than a little unsetting. I haven't read any of his science fiction, but probably will at some point. Sounds like it could make a good naming theme - I normally name pets as refernces to things I have enjoyed, too.

The Wasp Factory is weird but very funny in a totally dark way. his science fiction is good, and i am not really that into sci fi, State of the Art is one of the best ones.

i have been meaning to ask you if i was going to try watching some anime, which would be a good one to start with? i havent seen any before, and you enjoy it so much, i thought i would like to see what its about.

Oooh, anime recommendations! So hard just to pick just a few... The most accessible ones are the Studio Ghibli films (often called the Japanese equivalent to Disney, but in my opinion much better) - I enjoyed Princess Mononoke and more recently Howl's Moving Castle.

If you're after a series, Cowboy Bebop is excellent, one of the best I've seen, and not at all hard to get into even if you're not familiar with anime. :)
