Oh, sweetheart.

Lurch was a loss not to me, but to an entire Invisible City, an enormous community of men. I was one of thousands, and an extremely minor actor at very best. I'm sad, as I am sad for all of our losses (more and faster as we grow older). But founders and trail-blazers require our gratitude and respect, as much for the historical record, and it is up to us to close the book, priceless and irreplaceable, with grace, even as we turn our own pages.

And I thank you for your thoughts. I'm grateful in ways I cannot say. And I'm just fine.

Lurch was a good friend, a sweet and loving man, and I will miss him greatly. i just saw the notice of his death(a year and a half after it happened) and was quite shocked. I met him in Portland, Or at a bear run and have loved him ever since. He has hosted me in his home and always made sure I had a wonderful time whenever I visited San Francisco. He will be greatly missed.
