But I understand that only some types of angels had wings, there were a wide variety of them. And like Jesus during the Renaissance, were represented in a way that was a bit on the gurly side.

Considering that some angels were supposedly warriors, I don't think the represenation of fat little chubby boys putzing around is the correct vision for such allegory.

Know what? If I ever get around to doing a remake of Dogma, the angels (AND the muses, and what was her name anyway, there's like five of them) will have two aspects, as they seem to do in the OT: either the shape they got mistreated (mugged, rolled, whatever) in when they entered Gomorrah, and their shape as the Host of the Lord -- basically the same but with the size and flight characteristics of an Airbus A319. THEN ask the rest of the cast to gaze upon them with fear and trembling . . .

Maybe the wings just function like a spoiler on a gold 1978 Thunderbird, a symbolic accessory that says, "Well I COULD go 220 mph if I wanted, and I'd need these things to slow me down so I wouldn't lift right off the straight and narrow road while smiting, so don't mess with me ok? I'm an ANGEL OF THE LORD, ok? now piss off."

And, for functional wings, you'd need a sternum the size of a bicycle frame with pectorals bigger than your butt.

Exactly! That'd be pretty frightening, right?
