Oh man, that is adorable. And this coming from a "dog" person. (Stupid division really - i love all animals.)

I think you should call him Aloysius or Homer or Gin-and-Tonic. If my sister and i get a cat like we're thinking of doing one day, it will probably be a black cat which we'll call Cuba Libre.

As for buying into the meat trade, you might be interested in this:

I'm not sure what i think of feeding an animal veggie food BUT i think with a cat it's going to go off and chew up mice anyway, so it probably won't mind if you feed it 50% veggie food and 50% ordinary cat food. To be honest, i don't think it's any more unhealthy to give it veggie cat food than it is to give it that shitty processed crap out of a can, and anyway, a good balance won't do any harm.

Ooh, veggie pet food! I don't know if we'll go that far; I guess we'll just console ourselves with the idea that at least pet food uses up the byproducts of the meat industry.

I think we're going to call the cat Paisley. We've been calling him it for the last few days, and he seems to like it.

How about tomorrow (Tuesday)? We could go and sit in a pub garden after work. Can you make it to Islington? Or maybe Stoke Newington on the overground from Liverpool St?
