Not being in on the Harry Potter mania is a little strange - it's like everyone around me is part of a big celebration, but I'm not playing. I can participate, sort of, e.g., ordering the books so my niece and nephew got it first thing today, but mostly, it's not my party. Maybe it's like being Jewish at Christmas time? After weeks of buildup, ( Read more... )

So not getting the Harry Potter thing either. I mean, I'm glad kids are reading books. I just hope they read books outside of HP too.

I think really I should just be a story developer/script doctor.

See, I've thought this all along. The Pot Weasels need you! As does SVU fandom: I'm hoping you write an SVU fic, but I'm happy to see you be creative, period.

Exactly! I wonder if anyone's done a study/evaluation of the effects on kid's reading habits. That reminds me of a very funny article I read somewhere... about video games and how they actually are good for kids, because their minds are engaged and they have to do many things at once. The person theorized that if games had come first, books would now be decried as too slow and one dimensional, not offering enough stimulation. It was tongue-in-cheek, but it was still pretty funny.

Okay, not sure how I got off on that tangent... sorry!

Thanks for the writing encouragement. I am trying to get the muses working again. But how fun would it be if one of us got the keys to Dick Wolf's kingdom: Hairwings? Gone. UnStabler? Back in control. Casey? Nothing but a pale memory.

I have enjoyed reading the HP books, but it's mainly so I have a conversation point with the kids. No release parties, no writing of fanfic, no ships. And I love the films, but I like most anything that has cool FX.

I will admit that the wife and I joked about which Houses our cats would be assigned...no, I'm not proud of that.

I get kind of squicked if I think about HP fanfic and ships too long. So I'll stop.

See - this? I have no idea what it means. I'm out of it, I tell you!
