Altoona: a post-Charisma SVU ficlet

It's not long and it's really not perfect. Just a quick little something to make Elliot (and myself) feel better.

I liked this, thank you. And I wondered if that was Alex there at the end. The line about losing your identity seemed to point that way.

It's funny, I was known to complain about Alex every now and then but watching the reruns of earlier seasons has made me appreciate her a great deal more. So, see, that's one way Casey has actually been good: she's made Alex look soooooo much better.

Oh, I hated Alex initially. The first episode I can really remember watching was "Guilt," where she has that meltdown and screams at the squad that they work for her, not vice versa. It was hate at first sight for me!

When I began watching the reruns on USA, I grew to like her more and more. And then, once Casey was on the scene, I realized just how much Cabot brought to the show.

I love it when she and Stabler get into it with each other. I do wish Alex had stayed long enough for Stabler to even the scales a bit - it felt like she got the better of him more than the reverse. Regardless, by the time Alex leaves, you can see how much their relationship has grown. They really respect and like each other.

For fanfic purposes, that spark is great inspiration!

Anyway - much more than you probably wanted to hear about Alex/Elliot. Thanks for the nice words on the story - I'm really glad you liked it.

No, not at all, some constructive SVU discussion is always welcome. It's in very short supply on the CM board, sadly.

Actually there were moments here and there where I felt this Alex/Elliot vibe, but always wound up thinking I was just nuts. *g* So it's good to know there's some shared insanity out there.

It was a treat to find out she'll be making a special appearance in an upcoming episode. Here's hoping it's not just for two minutes.

Ooh! Girl, why are you not writing more??? ::taps foot impatiently::

I really liked this, and although I've lurked at TWoP enough to figure out that the "she" in question was supposed to be Alex, I actually really like the fill-in-your-own-blanks ambiguity of it, because this story is really about Elliot (and bless you for that -- because there is not nearly enough Elliot-focused fanfic in the world).

Wonderful job of getting into his thoughts.

Hee! Impatient prodding is a good motivator. I got into a writing funk, trying to finish an old GH fic. But I can't resist the Meloni-character muses, so I think I have resigned myself to this fate for now!

I don't think I wrote it that vaguely on purpose, but I'll take the credit ( ... )

Oh, and come out and play at TWoP sometime :)

LOL, I think between fanfic writing and trying to keep up with my f-list on LJ, I've got enough timesinks on my plate. It's your fault I even lurk there! (I think it was you who sent me over to the Oz board 'cause someone said something nice about Jailbait, wasn't it?)

I suppose you have to leave some time for real life stuff :) And your fic-writing is more important than TWoPing!

'Twas me. You can thank me later, lol! It is a fun place to lurk - I did that for a while. But as you can tell, I can't keep my mouth shut forever.

I wish I had discovered it before Oz went off the air. The same with TS and all the other Oz groups. I missed out on all that episode-to-episode excitement. Luckily, Oz fans won't let the show die just because TF did.

I thought this was beautiful and I actually tend to avoid SVU fic. For one thing I don't want to read anything with Benson in it which knocks off the two main pairings. I also don't particularly like the idea of Stabler paired up with Beecher. It somehow seems out of character for Elliott to develope feelings for a drunk driver who killed a little girl. I suppose my main objection to it though is that Stabler only has his appearance in common with Keller which would seem to indicate that Toby's love for Chris was only skin deep.

Ack - I never said thank you for your nice reply. Mea culpa! Thanks for reading it. SVU fic is a tough field. Like you, I'm not into O/E, though I don't absolutely rule it out. I usually read them, and end up hating myself, and the authors, however.

Stabler/Beecher needs to be done carefully. I have a couple of ideas for Beecher/Stabler fic, but there are definite hurdles to overcome.

Like you, I've always assumed Toby's crime would be an issue for Elliot. Plus, there's the whole problem of his sexuality. I hate the idea of Elliot just being some kind of closeted naif all these years - it diminishes his marriage and himself. But it can be dealt with, I think. Have you ever read "Fide et Amour?" The author does a good job dealing with that element, I think.

I also don't think Toby's attraction to Elliot has to be only skin deep. But even at that level, it would be intense.

Don't know if you've seen the Oz Rapsheet, but someone's putting a Beecher/Stabler fic site together, so maybe we'll get some interesting new ( ... )

Damn, Ultra, I couldn't pick just one line to quote -- or even five, or ten lines. The whole thing was just so good. (The same thing tends to happen when dealing with Season 6 episodes, but for the opposite reason.)

You're a beautiful writer, and I wish the de-Stablerizing story were in your hands. You'd do a phenomenal job. Maybe you can apply for a job on the SVU writing staff. How do you feel about pot? What about continuity? Mediocrity? Shameless pandering?

If the Elliot storyline continues to suck like Serena at a staff meeting, at least we'll have your fantastic fic to comfort us. Thank you.

Hey you - I think I thanked you for this nice surprise, but I don't think I did it properly. Maybe that's why you've disappeared?! I hope it's not just because I didn't hate "Doubt." I stood by you even after you approved of "Charisma!"

Hee! I'm for two out of four of those. See if you can figure out which two...

Wouldn't it be great if Ironbone let us write the scripts from now on. I don't know if all of America would enjoy the switch from sex crimes to just plain sex, with Alex returning and Casey leaving in a spectacular, fiery death. But I know the TWoPers would love it.

And at the end of the day, it IS all about us!

I'm going to give this the #1 compliment I can give a piece of writing: it makes me want to write something.

Which benefits you, too!
