I don't think it's too powerful. Compared to the Saboteur, it's not guaranteed to hit anything, and you have to trash a card of your own, but they don't get a replacement. I think that's a reasonable trade-off. Thematically it seems like it should cost a potion, though.

It would be really nice against small decks that eliminate copper. Trash a copper of your own, and you know they'll have to trash something they need.

Oops, forgot to mention that it's Todd again. I don't think I have a LJ acct, and don't want to bother with one.

What makes it more powerful than Saboteur is that it cleans your own deck. If you get one early, it basically has much of the same offensive effect as Saboteur (killing opponents' silver and such) while also helping you clean your own deck. I don't think it's too powerful, but I'm not at all confident without playtesting.

Your opponents can never use it to trash copper--they have to trash something strictly more expensive. After the very early game, they will very often have something like that (and not an estate) in their hand.

If you change from strictly greater to greater than or equal, it seems like a very poor card--I'm pretty sure it should cost 2. Even if you add +2 cards to it, it becomes quite similar to Masquerade, but not as good because other players can much more effectively use it to clean their deck.

I thought that strictly greater made it a weaker card. It makes it fairly easy for the opponent to show a hand with nothing that expensive in it.

Special rule: if another player has convexbaka in their hand, it suffices to trash that card instead, no matter the value of the card you have trashed.

:( There exists only one convexbaka and therefore should not be *trashed*!

You know I have played much less than you have, particularly with cards from extensions, so I may be lacking intuition. Nevertheless, my immediate reaction is that it too powerful.

I think it's way too powerful as stated, largely because it cleans your own deck and will even hit provinces late game :-P - it's super ridiculously powerful. I like the principle though... maybe if you give victims a choice, like, trash such a card or gain a curse and copper, or trash such a card or discard all cards of higher cost from your hand. The card still has the advantage of being a deck cleaner and a serious attack. And you can even get rid of the "or reveal a hand." Or, if it's still too powerful, lower the bar to "cost >="

So, New Sacrifice (Action-Attack, $5)
Trash a card. If you do, each other player trashes a card from their hand which costs more than the card you trashed, or discards all cards of higher cost from their hand.
