I love this because it's such a mystery. It almost sounds like something a jazz baby might say, deliberately shocking. Not modern, but not necessarily old-fashioned. It keeps her provenance well cloaked, while still giving us information about her character. Nice.

I get the feeling Buffy is going to show up just after he's taken laudanum the next time, further confusing matters. Heh.

Thank you! I'm so glad you referenced that line, because I spent an obscene amount of time wondering if I should edit it out. I wasn't sure if it sounded true to Buffy's character. I have an awful time writing her for some reason. Spike I can handle, but Buffy's voice always seems to elude me.

I've been wondering what people would think of William and, to tell you the truth, I've been feeling a little nervous about it. I got so many compliments for my characterization of him in FtTP, and this version is so different, I was afraid readers wouldn't like him. It's nice to know that isn't the case. Thank you! :)
