Oh yeah, I have had variants of this before too. But this one started to turn into an erotic dream--never should have left site to break camp without her.

My usual version is at the other end--I have set up in an indoor venue, and then left, only to come back and find I have been moved, all my stuff is missing, and the event starts in 15 minutes. Usually the missing is not because anyone offered to help, but because management decided to change my location.

My ongoing nightmare, still happening a couple of times a year, is I find out I never completed high school or first year of college, and have to go back.

Best worst dream I had was recurring for about 3 months. Almost every night same thing--I am dreaming something, and out of a rock,a tree, the wall, etc. come a group of hideous trolls, who grab me and force me to come with them. I am then in the room where the PhD orals happen, and the trolls start asking me questions--sometimes things about history, sometimes something else. I never know any of the answers, until I finally wake up ( ... )

By the way, on the second try, I knew I had passed when the US colonial/revolution expert ostentatiously unbuttoned his shirt, unplugged his hearing aid, removed it, rolled up the cord, leaned back and closed his eyes. Of course, the fact that the chair was the English dept expert in Puritan literature, and he and I had an interesting discussion on the finer points of Cotton Mather's non-religious work (his work on spiders is still considered excellent), helped. The Tudor/Stuart guy was still not really happy, but he was clearly outnumbered. Of such is success in academe.

btw, my other minor was Europe, 476-962--I was once very conversant with the real Goths, the impact of the stirrup and the Saxon wheeled plow, and other such critical stuff. I was a little weak on the dynastic issues of central Europe, but I was pretty good on the Huns, Mongols and Muslims as invaders. Yeah, TMI, but I'm in that kind of mood.
