That or ask him to cater the next AC and use a portion of the con reg fees to pay for said catering.

Awesome! I'm also wondering how long that money will keep his store open and what can we do to help advertise it (artwork for newspapers, radio jingles?)

Email food network and get an episode of some thing like Diners, Drine-ins, & Dives to do an episode there, Do the same with Travel Channel, Man vs. Food, maybe. Multiple emails increase the chance of the network getting the word out.
Also emailing any food critics, bloggers or writers in the same manner can create the buzz.
Main advantage is using media marketing like this can produce actual results with no outlay of actual funds.
