Wide Sargasso Sea

I have heard Wide Sargasso Sea referred to as "just another Jane Eyre."  When I was reading Jane Eyre, it was recommended that I read Wide Sargasso Sea after.

I could not disagree more!!!  I honestly did not finish Jane Eyre, but from the 60% I did read of it, I cannot see how the stories are similar.  Do you agree or disagree?

What I loved most ( Read more... )

I think that's a very strange thing to say about Wide Sargasso Sea. Maybe it just referred to the way Jean Rhys borrows her main character from Jane Eyre...Bronte's "madwoman in the attic" who ends up being the protagonist for Rhys's novel. I guess that could be seen as artistic laziness. But then I would say even that is pretty silly because what's wrong with taking a marginalized character and telling the story from her perspective? I thought it was a great idea :)
