Stew

Because of Mabon's gift, and after many hours spent figuring out the kitchen... there is fragrant, well made stew. Nothing fancy, but it smells wonderful nonetheless. Kay has transported it to the main room, because he can't find a dining room proper, and has a stack of bowls and a laddle

"--Sir Kay, sir? What're you--?"

He laddles the stew into a bowl and holds it out. "Do I need to tell you how to eat it as well?"

He takes it, too surprised to do otherwise. "Did you make it?"

"Some of us, Beaumains, are accustomed to make ourselves useful."

Free food! Most excellent! Palomides leans against the table, regarding the stew with both curiosity and hunger. "Is this aqua carnis, so to speak, a gratis offering?"

"You'd think you'd be used to me feeding you by now. Though I grant, I usually do more directing and less actual cooking."

"Used to it! Are you acquainted with yours truly in the future, then?" He considers this whole future-knights business perfectly normal by now.

He sighs, crosses his arms. "Sir Kay, the unmemorable."

Firekeeper wanders into the kitchen carrying more game than she's had the luck to find in a long time - two rabbits and a pheasant. She notices Kay and smiles, because for one thing, she liked talking to him before, and for another that stew smells very, very good.

"H'lo," she says, trying not to eye it too much.

"Good day. If you want some stew, I could get the pheasant started roasting. If you were intending to cook it now."

A smile breaks across her face. "Stew would be wonderful. I didn't know if I would make it now, but if you offer me stew, I will share my game with you."

"Later is fine. There's more than enough stew for now."

[scoffandjest]

"Stew, steward?" says Dinadan, who had to reply only because the typist couldn't think of anyone else who would make such a bad pun.

"I shouldn't let you have any, after that." But he spoons a bowl just the same.

"The soul of generosity, you."

[unhappysteward]

"They were going to call me 'Sir Kay the Charitable,' but decided it would sound too pompous at the last minute."

Melou is many things, but incredibly bright is not one of them. Also, the stew smells awesome, and as far as he's concerned, everybody here is dead. He comes over, a mixture of shy and eager, watching Kay with his usual unsmiling countenance.

It'll be a few moments before he manages to make the connexion between this relatively young man and the old, bitter enemy of his father. By then, hopefully, he will at least have scored some stew.

Kay hands the young man his stew. He looks vaguely familiar, perhaps, due to family resemblance, but in Kay's timeline the boy hasn't been walking long. Kay's not going to be doing any recognizing.

After a moment, though, he registers the staring. "What?"

Finally, he stammers out, "K-Kay?" No title. His father never gave Kay the title.

"Aye," irritated now. "What?"
