Today I'm off to an eight-year-old's birthday party where I will (don't laugh) be her photographer.

It is a tea party and this is what I expect:

• Balloons
• Tea with tons of milk and sugar but really the kids will drink hot cocoa
• Lots of pink
• Fairy or ballet theme
• Giggling

I know it's been a while--here's some research paper silliness to make up for it.

Misleading: Much to the Londons' sorrow, Wolf House, only weeks from finishing, burnt down in a fire, crushing the couple, but Jack even more so. (The crushing was emotional, not physical.)

Artichokes signify a special occasion in my family.  If I knew artichokes were one the menu when I was living at home, I planned my entire evening around that meal.

I made a discovery this year.

They're not that hard to make and I can make them whenever I want to...just because.

• e-mailed speech contest coordinator
• made permission slips
• made fliers
• found parents who could drive for a field trip
• e-mailed a worried parent

The people at my church take their cookies very seriously.  And this evening, one of my friends is hosting a chocolate chip cookie tasting, and my recipe is one of the entries.  Cookies will be judged on several factors: chip to cookie ratio, texture, cookie paired with milk...  Whoever wins get the right to strut.

This morning, I accompanied two other teachers and nine students to a poetry recitation contest.  It was the best kind of field trip.  I didn't have to judge performances; I didn't have any administrative duties, and, because only nine students came, I didn't have to worry about losing any of them.  There were only one or two truly spectacular ( Read more... )
