That is awesome, I agree! I think this AC overall had the best media portrayal of furries I've ever seen. Pittsburgh's main paper was nonbiased as well, and it seemed like the press really listened to us this time, rather than looking at us and then drawing they're own conclusions based on the freak factor.
Agreed...aside from the KDKA news anchor's flub and the correspondant making some slightly-off-color comments, it was alright. But this was the best one yet. Hopefully more articles like this will surface in the future.
Seems like the Pittsburgh City Paper is a lot like Detroit's Metro Times. They tend to not play up the freaky side of things since a lot of the people that read it are already into a lot of freaky things. Especially when you consider the pages of kinky personal ads and full-page ad spreads for local leather/bondage shops. :)
The only thing that I wonder about is why a lot of furs seem to feel the need to try an be at their weirdest when there's a non-fur or a reporter around. Even when I'm in Second Life and someone wanders into the Luxor pyramid with a human avatar, everyone seems to go into "scare the human" mode.
I try not to be like that, though. I was one of those people who really stood out at AC because I looked nothing like a furry, aside from the badges around my neck. Okay, so I'm a hefty white guy with long hair and a goatee, but I had no tails or ears to wear. The few people I ran into on the street who asked me what was going on were pretty friendly and curious, so I didn't try to scare them. When people show up in a furry area on 2L, I just say hi and act friendly to them.
