Note to self. Always bring granny cart when going to Costco. Even a small trip will be heavy. Also, when you know that you have an overly heavy-overly stuffed (so that it can't fit on your shoulder) bag, don't buy ice cream (or an iced latte) even though they are only a buck. These are things I've already known from experience, but apparently I don ( Read more... )

Sad about the kids, but I guess we'll hear the professional ideas from Debbie. Although I did hear people on the radio going on about the amount of homework American elementary kids have these days and how it's overloading. It's a shame, I guess it's swinging over from the days of "can't go to school this month - gotta work on the farm" and "Johnny dropped out at age 10 to go to work full time and start a family" over to insanely important "you must be taught a million things, do well on state tests, do ten after-school activities and go to college or ELSE"

Of course, I have no idea what's going on or what has been going on in Korea.

But I hope they find a decent middle ground. And hopefully you're able to help the kids a little. I mean, it seems like they could use someone telling them it's okay to not know and look out for their mental health at least a bit...

There are still issues with migrant workers having to move a lot because they work different places depending on seasons/where the work is and kids being pulled out to work on farms, it's just not as prevalent (obviously, lol).

Yeah, that's the norm/stereotype of what I learned about children in Asia and parents from Asian countries, and it's definitely sad. All you can do is keep repeating what you're saying. Maybe if they get something wrong on ungraded assignments that would help? But you're also one class that would be doing something like that (if you even would be allowed). You're definitely saying the right thing, though!
