I think I'm just going to talk about being white and women all together because they are related ( Read more... )

Wow, I think I would be really uncomfortable with that. But then I'm never a fan of people paying me particular attention... And God help us all if they try to touch me. But then I don't know, maybe it's not as weird as it sounds (but it probably is haha).

The thing you have to remember is that they are looking at you because you are white. There is nothing else. When people stare at you at home there is some reason (generally). I think America is one of (if not the) most sensitive to minorities, in large part because we are used to seeing all sorts of different people. It is hard for a person to really grab our attention (their clothes and hair and such yes, but not just someone based on how they were born) and even then we generally try to hide our staring for politeness sake.

But other cultures don't have the same thing so you just have to treat it like being an animal in the zoo. I'm just an oddity. I have nothing stuck between my teeth. It's nothing personal. In some ways it is kind of freeing because I know that I will be weird no matter what. Also, most people are genuinely interested and just want to make a good impression on me and really like American culture. When they know any English they like showing off.

I guess it's just one of those things that you'd have to be there to get, because I agree with Chris where I think I'd still be uncomfortable...I mean I would smile and such but I wouldn't really want to deal with it.
