I think it's a combination of not feeling passion about psychology, laziness about writing a real research paper, and poor skills at it. When I had to write my senior research paper, I had a lot of trouble because I was really bad at writing research papers and I wasn't familiar with the topic(which concerned physical anthropology while I was primarily a cultural anthropology major). The younger the students are, the less used they are to hard work in their classes. Still, I was really passionate about the topic, despite sucking at it. There is no use complaining. They signed up for the class and if the teacher is making an effort to honestly teach them skills they need in the field, why did they sign up? I too would feel annoyed at my peers for not taking their education seriously. They/they parents are paying big money for them to be in this class. Faking data is just a waste of everyone's time and money. Kudos to you for being an exception to your "competition" !

Yeah, the more I think about it, the worse I feel for these people...they probably just have no idea how to really love a subject, especially if they've been taught poorly when they were younger, or basically trained to hate teachers/classes/authority/work, etc. because of bad school environments or something.

It amazes me when I hear of encounters with people like this.

Good entry.

A lot of the problems today is how we teach the children in the schools of today. The emphasis is placed on spitting out the information they're told so there's little thinking. When they are required to think it gets too hard and boring.

Glad to hear the you're serious on what you're studying. :)

I definitely agree. I was homeschooled until high school and had to learn much more "organically" and I think I appreciate the value of learning a lot more than many people I have met in my studies. However, it does come back to bite me sometimes, I've failed classes that I'm not interested in because I don't "care" about the grade itself...

I have an acquaintance and former classmate who somehow managed to make it through the major with that attitude. Her explanation: "I'm in it for the money. People pay me a lot to listen to their bullshit."

I was horrified. I'm glad you feel differently. You'll be a credit to your profession. I'd pay good money to see someone like you who actually gives a damn.

...wow. That's terrible :/ Sadly, I'm sure part of the reason psychology is such a popular major these days is because people see the popularity and success of therapists/psychiatrists (in media, news, just the shear number of people in therapy now -- everyone in my family but me is, heh) and go, "Oh hey, I can listen to people, I wanna get paid big money!"

Sometimes I wonder if I'd be any good as a therapist because I would probably care TOO much...and you do need to keep enough distance to be professional, you know? :)

Thanks for the kind words.
