Jenny asked her boss about giving me another contract, and was told that that was possible if I am available. We are going to talk about it tomorrow morning. The thing is, it is likely to only be a month or two, and I have a four month project lined up already. If it were a semi-permanent contract, I'd jump at it, but I can't cancel the Sabine job ( Read more... )

Good luck on the jobs! I wouldn't hold my breath for anything permanent with THC, just this moment- the terrestrial archeologist positions they've advertised (and I interviewed for) were filled internally and the old positions of the two named to those positions haven't been opened for apps :(

Thanks! I think there might be one more terrestrial archeologist position left to fill, so keep an eye out for it. So far they have hired a woman named Becky for Marie's position, and a guy from Missouri for the newly added reviewer spot, but I think they still need to fill Brad Jones' reviewer spot, since he just took over the non-reviewer job that Elizabeth Martindale left. I could be wrong though, it's a bit confusing piecing together exactly who took whose position, and what is left to fill.

I'm not holding out much hope for a permanent cemetery position, but if one comes open (probably the main hurdle,) I think I have a pretty good shot at it. The history division director seems to like me, and the head of the cemetery program told me she wants me as a permanent employee.

I did get some news about temp work at the THC, but I'll save that for a post I'm going to write today.

Gotcha. The website reflected something different. The third terrestrial position was only open for apps for just over a week, and I totally missed it by two days :(

Oh well. I've not managed to get a foot in at the THC as of yet, and I'm worried my time working with Sergio have hurt my prospects (or that I just come off as overbearing). It is rather disheartening to hear they hired from out of state instead of the hundreds of locals that applied.

I thought it was strange that they went with someone from out of state. Apparently the guy was high up in the Missouri Historical Commission, possibly the head of the whole thing. If I could remember his name, I'd look it up.

I thought Sergio was well thought of in the archeology division, but I base that mostly on Mark Denton seeming to have fond memories of him.
