I AM GOING TO MOSCOW. i am spending next summer in a paid internship working in the US Embassy in Moscow, Russia, with free housing, and also IN RUSSIA.
I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE THIS IS REALLY GOING TO HAPPEN.
russian, german, spanish, french, ancient greek, hebrew, latin... not more than that with any regularity? yeah. no portuguese, unfortunately, but i'm sure someone would sponsor it if you asked them to, but then you'd be a little bit on your own maybe. maybe not though, i'm sure there's someone who's fluent or at least knowledgable who could help you with it.
I have a friend who lived with a family in St. Petersburg this summer. If you want any advice or tips, I can give you her e-mail address.
Best thing about Russia, according to her: Gauloises are eighty cents a pack. Of course, this is negligible if you don't smoke, but it seemed interesting.

i think it's totally not true to assume that you wouldn't get in - and i think that regardless of the odds, you need to visit, at the very least.
