I haven't slept in 24 hours.

Wait -- that's a lie. I dozed a bit on top of a bar in the middle of a refugee camp.

Just got back from Reliant Park, where some 23,000 or so homeless hurricane victims are being sheltered. On advice from stjude, I showed up around midnight, after the volunteer glut from the afternoon had cleared up. I left around 9:30 a ( Read more... )

after you left, the place got CRAZY. so many freakin' kids. they started checking them in and out.

also, stuff that needs to happen:

write kids' names on their wristbands when they enter so when adults come to claim them, we know the kids are theirs if they can identify them by name,

and

set up another partition to separate the smaller kids from the bigger kids. the smaller kids were starting to get picked on. lots of crying.

whichever of us gets there again first should set up this policy.
