We are stuck.

Even if we wanted to leave, we couldn't -- the roads are clogged like Cheney's arteries. If I were one of those crazy bike riding types, I might try cycling to Austin, because it would probably certainly be faster. But I'm not. Ninjas don't ride bikes ( Read more... )

and your dad is right -- hotels are usually all cement, as opposed to most north american single-family houses, which are much more lightweight.

hmm, we are now considering riding it out at the house -- the 'cane has continued to move east, and if it continues, we will catch maybe only Cat2 storm conditions if we are lucky.

Keep us updated if you can... I am really worried -- not just about the weather conditions, but about the potential for ugly stuff to go down (yeah, am feeling super-eloquent right now)...
In category of "stupid thoughts," how do they know how much wind a house can withstand?
In other category of "stupid thoughts," do you have alternate means of contact, in event of loss of internet?

will try to keep updated, so long as electricty doesn't go out. also, we might still go to the hotel, if the 'cane turns back this way. other than internet, there's not really a reliable way to contact me or for me to contact others. phones have been jammed up since yesterday -- i can't make any outgoing calls on my cell.

but, there's an increasing possibility that we will ride this out with minimal damage, so keep you fingers crossed =)

Wow. I know we've hardly talked, but still. Hope angsty thoughts and good intentions can substitute for prayers, because those I got and I'm aiming them due south. Seriously, hope you get bypassed/storm-shunned.
