My friends have pointed out to me that they believe Apollo sees the Cylon heavy raider at the last minute before Starbuck ignites. That would imply that it isn't just hallucinations, but that perhaps Leobin is in that heavy raider somehow having an effect on Starbuck.
Starbuck's special destiny can fall into many categories. Maybe her death in the storm will draw Galactica's attention towards it and that will be relevant. Maybe there's a clue to Earth through that vortex and the whole exploding ship bit was an ancient technological ruse. Alternatively, maybe the heavy raider picked her up and the cylons will 'rebuild her' a la The Six Million Dollar Man. Who knows?
That's interesting, I'll have to go back and look for signs that Apollo saw the raider. I'm hoping they do something that makes this whole thing meaningful. Right now I don't feel like Starbuck was killed off by the storm, or by her own death wish; I feel like she was killed off by the writers, which makes the whole thing very frustrating.
