I haven't had this much stuff in my head wanting to come out for a long time, so all the words/snarling/occasional weeping are all possible descriptions of my headspace.
November goals: finish current kinkmeme fill which is about half done, finish my JS&MN series Over the Mountains, write some more of the poly 'verse, write some of my much neglected original fiction. maybe finally kick the sequel to Toy Soldiers into shape.
IGNORE Patterns of Light until it starts begging me to write it again, fuck it.
immediate goal: shake off the rags of my literal worst nightmare in ages, which took more than 10 minutes to write down, but I hope that's not going to be the only writing I do today.
::nightmare hugs:: Those are never fun. I had a long dream about being at work, which is such a waste of sleeping. Sigh.

Y'all almost make me feel bad about not participating. But yes, double yes, to writing 10 minutes a day. I want the writing bug back.
I'm not participating because I told myself I wouldn't start anything new until I finished my last successfully finished NaNo. I cheat a little with writing ideas and profiles, but I've been good on the whole.
So maybe this month I'll finish editing, or no - let's start smaller. This month I'll have edited all chapters from three pages to four pages. BOOM.
Well, I don't do NaNo because the one and only time I tried, I got my first/worst case of writer's block ever. I think it is because the tenants of NaNo are very different from how I normally write. However, I've been poking around for the better part of a YEAR working on this bloody novel, and I want to finish it by the end of the year, so this is as good a time as any to commit to writing a certain amount every day.
The current WIP is an original story set in the 1950s. My characters have been assigned to work undercover as a married couple to investigate strange happenings in a suburb. It's Ward and June Cleaver meets the X-Files. It's a departure for me, and as such, I've been struggling with it. I'm 45 K into it and have a LOT more story to tell, and it's apparent to me I'm going to have to take a chainsaw to it at some point and do some heavy pruning. But first I have to write the damn thing.
I am resolutely (and reluctantly) avoiding fandom at the moment. No fandom for me until I finish this stinking draft.

Are you getting bogged down in research? I think that's why I'm stalled on my 1950s SGA fic. I keep having to hop on Google.
That sounds like the same reason I don't do NaNo. I'm not good with rules, and deadlines are always iffy (says the woman with three looming at the moment). I hope we can help inspire you to get more of your WIP knocked out this month! Good luck! *\o/*
Aw, thanks for the encouraging words about the WIP. :-) I needed that. The problem is mostly that I've got too much backstory and have taken too long to get to the action. That's not the kind of problem I typically make, so it's shaken my confidence a bit. I also realized (or rather, finally admitted) that a subplot I'm rather fond of does nothing to further the story and needs to go. Those two things together mean I have to gut the first bit and do a line by line read to remove any traces of the subplot.
I think I've got too much backstory because I love research--and it feels a little like I'm putting in stuff just to prove that I know what I'm talking about. :-) Heck, I could have probably gotten everything I needed just from re-watching Roman Holiday again.
At any rate, I have a *plan* and that's more than I had yesterday! :-)
OMGosh, I know exactly what you mean! I hate having to cut out stuff from a fic that shows how much work I did researching. "Look! Look how deep I went! Look how good it ties in!"
Having a plan is good. Don't let that rocky start get you down. I've had a lot of fics start that way, and it'll take four or five restarts until I get it right. Which almost always means chopping out the exposition. One day I'll learn not to start my fics that way. LOL!
Can I come crawling back into the fold? I haven't written all year, pretty much, but in a moment of madness I signed up to Yuletide so I really have to write something before Christmas. Ten minutes of cursing and staring at the screen and sobbing per day sounds about the right amount. I can guarantee to be a super-miserable fuck when it comes to writing.
So my goal is very, very simple: write something. Preferably my Yuletide fic, but since I'm still reviewing canon right now that will have to wait a little bit longer, so there will have to be some kind of warm-up exercise. I guess I'll see what I feel like when I settle down for ten minutes of writing - which won't happen until the kids are in bed.
I've been scarcely writing all year, too. Lots of reading and telling myself it's 'filling the well', but it's time for me to do better! We shall be miserable fucks together!
