Chace found Sam a lot more chatty on the ride home.
It was like being introduced to a whole other person as he went on about he at first wanted to leave the town, getting insane scores on his SAT when he was Chace's age.
“Why didn't you go?” Chace asked turning down the radio some.
Sam shrugged “Everything I wanted was here.” he said in a simple tone. Chace couldn't figure out what could be in a little flyspeck of a town like this until Sam added “Dean likes it here.”
And suddenly Chace understood that feeling perfectly.
Chace looked out the passenger window as they passed the endless fields of West Texas spreading out before him. He was now more confused than ever.
After a few minutes Sam clicked the radio off and said “You know I don't mind.”
Chace looked over his shoulder “Don't mind what?”
“You and Dean.” Sam explained and Chace's mouth opened in shock. His brother could read his mind now? Sam chuckled “You're seventeen and been kissed by Dean Winchester Chace, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's on your mind.”
Chace felt himself blush as he looked away. In a low voice he said I'm not gay you know?”
After a pause Sam said “We're all a little gay.” Which made Chace look at him in confusion. “It's basic psychology, everyone has thoughts, impulses. Some people more than others.” he raised an eyebrow “You think throwing a bone for your brothers makes you what? Straight?”
Chace tried to say something and then stopped. Finally he said “It's different.”
Sam just grinned and looked back at the road “Always is kiddo. Always is.”
Chace decided he liked him better when he was stoic and not talking.
When they got back the afternoon was just ending, the sun hiding itself behind the barn. As they got out Dean walked out shirtless, his chest darkened with dirt, he did not look happy “Where the fuck have you been?”
Sam pulled the boat out of the back of the jeep and said over his shoulder “Took him fishing.” which made Dean's face twist into an even worse face than the last one.
“Since when do you take people fishing?” he asked storming over to his brother.
Sam put the boat down and looked over to Dean “Since now I guess.”
Dean stood, chest to chest with Sam “What the hell Sam?”
Sam looked down at Dean and said with a stone serious face “Are you mad I took him or anyone but you?”
Chace thought Dean was going to spit at him he looked so mad.
That was when John stuck his head outside “Chace?” he held the portable phone in his hand “Phone call.”
Chace didn't move at first, wondering where this was going. But Sam looked over at him, winked and gestured to the phone “Go ahead Chace, it's cool.”
Dean looked over at Chace and then back to Sam “What the?”
Chace hid his grin as he jogged over to his dad who asked “They fighting again?”
Chace nodded “When are they not?”
He heard his dad mummer “That's the problem.” as he walked off.
“Hello?” Chace said to the phone.
The cheerful sound of Lucas Scott's voice said “Hey loser, what's up?”
Chace grinned “Bout 8 and half inches of Texas pride, and you?”
He heard Lucas laugh “Bout the same, where you been?”
Chace walked into the kitchen, looking for anything he could eat since breakfast had been his last meal “Out with my brothers...you know.”
“Nathan was asking if you wanted to spend the night. He wants another Madden night.” talking about the massive Xbox 360 tournaments the three of them played when he stayed over.
He almost immediately said no, wanting to see what happened with Sam and Dean instead but then thought better about it. He wasn't a fag and he wasn't gonna be sitting around to be all gay for his brothers. Not him. He grabbed a leg of chicken as he said “Hell yeah, when?”
“Tonight?” Lucas asked in an eager tone. Man he must be hard up for some Xbox.
“Let me ask my dad, but don't see why not.” he said between bites.
“Cool, just head on over, our parental units are MIA for the night.” he said, meaning it was Madden while drunk night, even better.
“Fuck yeah, see ya.” he said hanging up. He closed the fridge “Hey dad going over to the Scott's tonight!”
“Have fun” was all he heard back.
“Oh I plan on it.” Chace said running upstairs to grab clothes.
Lucas hung up the phone and looked over to his brother who was busy pouring something into a bottle of whiskey “He's coming.”
Nathan smiled “Not yet.” he said as he made sure all the powder was in the bottle before he closed it. As he shook it he saw it dissolve into the whiskey “But he will be.” his grin was all evil.
Dean heard Chace go inside and the door close after him. In a low voice he asked “What the hell Sam?”
Sam just stared at his brother, trying not to notice how incredibly hot he got when he was angry. IN a calm voice Sam asked “What the hell what Dean?” he smiled “Have to be more specific than that.”
Dean lowered his voice even more “First you haul off and hit me when I take the kid out to the lake and you just vanish with him to go fishing?” before Sam could even answer Dean went and “And since when do you take anyone fishing? I thought that was like your zen place or something? Why would you even take him?” Sam's mouth opened but Dean just kept talking “I'm getting tired of this Sam. You accuse me of something and then turn around and do it and all of a sudden it's ok and no one can...”
Sam said in a level, unemotional voice “I took him out there to fuck Dean.” That brought his brother's ramble to a dead halt “And it was good.” he said as he raised his eyebrows “So do whatever you want with him. I don't care.”
And Sam walked away, leaving Dean standing there with his mouth hanging open.
As Sam was walking in Chace was walking out. Chace grinned “You got him?”
Sam nodded “Oh yeah.”
Chace laughed as he walked out the door, and into Dean. Chace felt himself crash into his older brother's solid frame and bounce off of him like he was a child. Dean's hands lashed out and steadied him as Chace's vision spun like he'd been hit by a blitz “You ok?” Dean asked making eye contact.
Chace nodded, trying not to get lost in the gold specks that circled around Dean's eyes.
Dean paused and then said in a hesitant voice “Did Sam...I mean did you and Sam...” but before he could finish he saw Chace blush a fierce red.
That was all he needed.
“Motherfucker” he said letting go of Chace and rushed past him into the house.
Leaving Chace on the doorstep out of breath. He shook his head and hopped into his truck heading to the Scott's. Suddenly he had no interest in seeing what was going to happen.
The Scott's were loaded.
Nathan and Lucas' father Dan owned most of the town in one way or another. He was actually mayor a few years back and from the way John talked about him, Dan had used those years to set himself up for life. They owned the ranch that hugged the Winchesters east wall but unlike Sam, Dean and Chace, the Scott's had help all year round.
Leaving Lucas and Nathan all the time in the world to train.
Where Chace was an athlete from skill or virtue of loving a game, Lucas and Nathan were bred for it. Dan pushed them into little league, soccer, Pop Warner, basketball and swimming all before they were nine. They had made friends fast friends with Chace, who seemed to share their insane desire for all things athletic and they had grown up together.
As Chace pulled up to their house he was blown away by their spread. It was bad enough he felt like a fucking hick most of the time but standing in front of the old style Gone with the Wind like mansion he felt like a poor hick. Lucas met him as he walked up to the door, from the glaze in his eyes he could tell the Scott's had already begun drinking.
“Chace!” Lucas called out “My bitch!”
Chace chuckled as he gave him a hug “In your dreams.”
Lucas moved his mouth close to his ear “You have no idea.”
Chace pulled back, the smell of booze on his breath stank and...well everyone fooled around being gay once in awhile, I mean it was guys. But Lucas sounded...serious?
“Come on!” Lucas burst out laughing “Look at your face! Man you are easy...come on!” he said walking into the house, not quelling all of Chace's fears.
Nathan was in the living room, from his whooping and cursing at the screen he was a little tipsy as well. He screaming into his headset “Yeah bitch! Suck it!!” Chace laughed as he put his bag down as he saw Nathan's digital quarterback doing a dance in the endzone. Typical night at the Scott house.
“You picking on 10 year old's again?” Chace called out to get Nathan's attention.
Nathan paused and grinned “Later loser.” and took off the headset “Chace! The man!!” he said jumping over the couch. He threw his hands around Chace nad hugged him, which brought the youngest Winchester up short. When had they gotten so handsy? Chace patted Nathan on the back “Hey Nate...man you guys are drunk.”
Nathan pulled back “And you aren't!” he called out “Lucas! A bottle for our guest!!”
Lucas came around with a full bottle of Jack Daniel's in his hand. He made a little flourish as he said “Our finest vintage.”
Chace took the bottle “All for me? What about you guys?”
Nathan jumped over the couch again and held up a half empty bottle “We're covered...and you're behind” he said pointing at the full bottle “So drink!”
Chace pulled open the bottle as they both chanted Drink drink drink at him. He pulled a long, hard swallow as he felt the burn go down his throat. Fuck his brothers and their gay shit...he needed a night out, away from them to get his head on straight. And there was nothing straighter than Lucas and Nathan Scott.
Or so he thought.
Sam was halfway up the tairs when John called out from the living room “Hey!”
Sam craned his head down “Yeah?”
“What in the fuck are you guys up to?” he roared.
Sam made the best confused look “What do you mean?” Which was of course when Dean burst n the back door “You better run you long legged fuck!”
Sam kept the same fake smile on his face “It's nothing.” and began running upstairs.
Dean saw him retreating upstairs and began to bound after him when John's voice stopped him cold “Dean Winchester!”
Dean froze, one foot on the step and looked at him with a pale face “Dad?”
He stood up and looked at his oldest son “I was supposed to head out tonight, but if you two are going to be fighting...”
Dean's face went from shocked to charming instantly “Fight? What? Us?” he grinned “Go on, go out, have fun.” he said making a pushing motion with his hands “We aren't fighting, I mean what gave you that idea?”
John continued to glare at him without blinking “What is going on?”
“Nothing” Dean said solemnly.
“Dean?” he growled.
And Dean's facade broke “You damn well know what's going on!” he barked back “And frankly dad I don't care any more! You wanna kick me out kick me out! But I am done being the bad guy.”
He stood there, face to face and John let out a sigh “We are going to talk about this later.”
“Oh won't that be a joy!” Dean shot back, but his dad was already grabbing his jacket.
John looked over his shoulder at Dean and then shook his head and walked out. Dean was about to shout something after him as he heard the upstairs door slam shut.
And he remembered he had bigger fish to fry.
He began to stomp up the stairs “You better lock that fucking door!”
Chace thought he held his liquor better than this.
He had barely gone through a quarter of the bottle and he was flushed and dizzy and feeling NO pain. Nathan was creaming him at Madden like he was a little girl, which for some reason was hilarious to the Scott brothers. “Thought you were better than this Winchester!” Nathan taunted.
“I am.” Chace said squinting his eyes in concentration at the screen. The pass went wide and Nathan intercepted it with contemptuous ease. Chace cussed under his breath as he took another swig.
“You look hot.” Nathan said pausing the game. Chace looked up at him with half crossed eyes in confusion. “You're sweating.” he said pointing at Chace's forehead and then grabbed his shirt “Get comfortable” he said pulling it over Chace's head, revealing his tight six pack “You're among friends.”
Chace tried to say something but the action was so quick and he was so toasted he just allowed the shirt to be pulled off. Lucas handed his bottle back as he sat there shirtless between them.
Lucas smiled at him “Better?”
Chace smiled back “Yeah!”
Lucas held up his bottle and Chace followed and they both drank. Lucas watched him with one eye opened. He saw Nathan watching him drink as well. As he finished Chace let out a deep breath and leaned back on the couch, Lucas pulled the bottle out of the teen's hands before he could drop it. Nathan moved closer to Chace “You ok ace?”
Chace's head was raised towards the ceiling with his eyes closed “Perfect.”
Nathan gave a leering grin to Lucas “I couldn't agree more.” as they both looked at lean, tanned body of Chace Winchester.
Dean got to the attic door and pounded on it “Open the fucking door Sam!” Silence. He pounded again “Open the fucking door Sammy!” More silence. “I swear to god I am going to break this fucker down and...”
And the door swung open.
Sam was sitting on the other side of the room with a lopsided grin “It wasn't locked.”
Dean's mouth opened to hurl about a thousand curse words but he closed it. “We need to talk.”
“Oh do we?” Sam asked as innocently as possible.
Dean glared at him “OH yeah.” and he closed the door behind him.
