I found this interesting. I've been curious about my speech patterns since I took Linguistics last year. I don't have a region really, so I'm not sure if I have a regional dialect. Hmm..

I kicked ASS in that course!

For some reason it clicked with me, the phonetic alphabet, the diagramming, etc. Intriguing stuff. That and I discovered why the north part of Florida sounds more Southern than the south part of Florida.

is it because the northern part of florida is closer to states such as alabama, georgia, etc?

That's what I thought too, but I read this really cool article about the speech patterns in Florida.

It has to do with who settled the area. Different groups settled the Miami and Jacksonville areas. Don't ask me who, I can't remember the specifics. But the same ethnic groups that settled the Boston-New England area settled the Southern tip of Florida.
