I'm so annoyed it's offline now because I never bothered to download the pattern and it's been on my Projects To Do Eventually list since I first came across it a year ago. I've seen various (online) versions of this pattern and it's fantastic. I'm not a DW fan, but the 4-year-old laddie for whom I'm a one-to-one school helper is a HUGE fan and I was thinking of knitting this for him.
As for Rowling, DMC France released a cross-stitch pattern book a few years ago (I have a copy) and, while there are certainly HP knitting patterns floating around in cyberspace, I don't know if any of them are Official. Gah, everybody's becoming cranky lately, eh?
Huh. That reminds that my lovely but misguided mother bought me a HP cross-stitch book years ago! That still must be... somwhere.
I'd completely forgotten it existed, having no talent for any kind of needlework whatsoever. I tried to knit a scarf once and everyone in the family still ridicules my attempt. :-P
I'm not sure this is entirely Rowling's fault, though. The BBC has been pissy for years about fans building their own Daleks and the like. Still, probably the recent kerfuffle has stirred things up a bit.

As for Rowling, I blame Steve Van Dalek.
