I asked one of the other teachers who's been there a couple years and she said that every year there's an outbreak of pinkeye and that since we're an afterschool english program that the parents pay quite a bit for, they won't send the kids home.
It seems to be a pretty common thing here. They don't seem to have any concept of the idea of contagious. People (even adults) don't cover their mouths when they cough and sneeze and kids regularly get sent to school when they're sick. It boggles my mind that in a society with so many people in such a small space, that they don't take any measures against spreading infections.

and you do NOT send your kid to school with something that contagious!!
