There we go, the resolution to the evil cliffy of the last chapter. I hope you enjoyed seeing what happened and learning who fired those two shots. From the responses I got to my question from last time, I know that not too many people guessed that it would be Billy coming to the rescue, but I hope you can see the how and why of it.

Originally, I'd really wanted Don to rescue himself in this fic, but then Frazer took on a life of his own and became far more sociopathic than originally intended. As a result, Don was injured far more grievously and it quickly became clear to me that he'd be in no condition to get himself out of the basement. At least not believably.
Enter Billy. He seemed to fit in so logically after Frazer surprised me by making the original souvenir comment to Don, so I went with it. Don did do a lot and got much further than almost any other agent would, but he did need a little help from his old partner.

:dances around the room: I had figured out by this point that it had to be Billy coming to the rescue. He was the logical choice in the end. Yay for the end of the angst and the start of the recovery!

Not too many people guessed it correctly, but I'm hoping that those who didn't will see the logic of it. It's not like he's coming out of left field.

As for the angst, there will be a bit more of it simply because I'm gonna try and be accurate regarding his injuries, both physical and psychological, as they won't go away overnight.

Yes, Frazer did start to look for him, but that's not how Billy heard of him being out or why he started hunting him. It was purely for Don that he did.

Yep, Donny's definitely cracked and has a long way to go for recovery. But we'll see the start of that at the hospital.

Aw. Good old Coop - perfect choice for a rescue. And I don't know the song you're listening to, but that sounds perfect too. Now somebody get poor Donnie some mercuricrome and a stiff drink!!! Poor baby needs some TLC (here, Donnie - come to Callie - she'll take care of you). I sure hope the next part isn't far away. :D

Yeah, Billy struck me as exactly the right person given that we are dealing with a fugitive here, and one whom Don and Coop have hunted before.

You should look it up on YouTube, it's a really great song.

Oh, yeah, he needs a lot of TLC, though I'm not so sure he'd agree that you're the best person to give that to him. Not after all you've put him through.

Speaking of the next chapter, I just finished it so I'll reread it tomorrow and send it off to the betas. I'm normally a bit more ahead of things than this, but the combination of the computer trouble and the fact that I'm not at home alone has thrown off my writing schedule.
But don't worry, it shouldn't take too long as I know exactly where I'm going with it at this point.
