Did you know needles were invented over 40,000 years ago and have changed very little since?

Well, for 39,999 years it was hard to see how the design could be improved.

Then, along came the health and safety police who decided that blunted needles was the way to go...

Minutes from that meeting:

Health and Safety Policeman: Needles should be banned. They are sharp, pointy and work far too well.

Health and Safety Boss: Too right. However that would mean that no one has clothes.

H&S Police man: What would the Health and Safety implications be?

H&S Boss: Risk of sun burn in summer. Risk of hypothemia in winter. And arrest due to indecent exposure. Further risk then due to prison over crowding. Risk then of reduced work force. Risk of economic collapse.

H&S Police man: Maybe we should just leave the needle alone then?

H&S Boss: NO! Let's look at the facts again.

H&S Policeman: Sharp, pointy, works too well.

H&S Boss: We can do something about that! Lets make it blunt, wonky and attach a warning to the packaging.

H&S Policeman: Excellent. Our work here is done.

You are caught in the academic web. Break free! Make wild assumptions based on no evidence. Jump to conclusions. Go on. It's fun!
