Gunn seems to be okay, but he's apparently got amnesia. All the way back to the party at Buffy's house. Partly I'm relieved, it means he doesn't remember me killing him. I mean, I wasn't itching to go through that whole guilt trip again--not that I'm still not feeling guilty about it. Even if I still don't remember doing it. You know what I mean ( Read more... )

Kennedy had been thinking about whether or not she really was a bad guy, where she fit in the world, and no matter how much she shook that proverbial 8-ball she always came up with ‘ask again later’. It seemed her whole life worked that way. She could never make decisions and the ones she did make often got someone killed. She was scared of what that meant. I tried, wasn’t that enough? Yet she already knew the answer.

Her unflinching loyalty to Eve didn’t make her evil. Her unflinching loyalty to Darla didn’t make her evil, either. She was lost and confused and had been taken advantage of. A poor youth who missed her chance in love and thought she found it. Again and again. Only to realize that the people she loved couldn’t love her in return. A Lawyer and a Vampire -that must be a joke-.

She blamed Sera for this. The girl who opened her up to the possibility of love… before she too was ripped away, far too soon. Killed by a demon that they had trusted. That she had trusted. Long ago, back when she was young and still guided by the ( ... )

Angel looked over at Kennedy, realizing that she was trying to be straight with him for once. He walked across the lobby to her. "That's fair enough, if you feel the need to be somewhere else, somewhere safe. I won't try to look for you," he said, carefully. "I do know that you don't usually walk away from Wolfram and Hart if they don't want you to, unless you have a card up your sleeve. So I hope you have that angle covered."

He tilted his head and tried to look into her face. "I do appreciate you helping us get Gunn out. I didn't give you a whole lot of reason to want to help us, and neither did anyone else, except maybe Oz." He started to turn, and then looked back and said, "Wait a minute, my sire? You were with...Darla?"

He shook his head, wondering what his ex wanted with the girl. "Nobody takes Darla unless she has plans for them, usually unpleasant ones," he muttered, half under his breath.

A vague smile came over her at his last comment. She knew first-hand what Darla was capable of and didn’t flinch, she remembered some of their nights together, hunting. How Darla would pretend that she wasn’t interested in Kennedy, but she was. Interested in the way of ‘how can I break her’, but there was still an interest. Kennedy was her new toy… something that broke far too quickly. “Think I personally oversaw a few… not-so-legal transactions, so I’m okay as far as that goes,” she said softly, touched that Angel cared one way or the other ( ... )

Angel nodded at her assertion of having some insurance against the lawfirm, then hesitated. The last thing he needed around here was an unpredictable potential slayer that rubbed both Faith and Cordelia the wrong way, but he had to offer. "Look, we...didn't get off to the best start, but if you want help, all you have to do is ask."

Unbeknownst to both parties, Melaka kept a watchful eye of the conversation from above and now decided it was time to show herself, "Ya think she'll make it?" She asked, stepping into Angel's view.

Angel turned from the door at Melaka's words. "I hope so. But I don't know, she seems like she's got a lot of demons to fight. Power and passion are hard to pass up, especially when you're that young. And if Darla got her hooks into her...well, she doesn't give up that easily."

"So don' break out tha 'yay you did it' banner jus' yet, hunh?" She rose an eyebrow and leaned against the second floor banister. Mel wasn't one to hate people, actually in point of fact she made it her business not to hate anyone. She rather liked the banter she had with Kennedy, not to mention the snits the girl would get in with Faith and Cordelia, but she couldn't help it but think 'it couldda been me'.

Oftentimes she'd be mistaken for a Pump on account of her superhuman strength, and more times than that she'd been offered drugs. And as much as an angel she'd say she was, she wouldn't lie to you when she said she'd been tempted. So she couldn't help feeling sorry for Kennedy, if only a little bit.

"I don't think you can ever say for sure that someone isn't gonna back-slide. Me included," said Angel. He walked back over to the counter and glanced at a couple of telephone messages there. "Forces are always out there trying to pull you back. Hope she can resist them."

He shook his head, deciding he was waxing a little too philosophical. "Speaking of which, how's Wes doing on that spell to send you back?"

Mel stretched her arms out in front of her, nodding to Angel all the while. "What happens if I ... forget?" she asked in a playful tone. "I'll be good. Promise." She was in an unusally good mood and wasn't sure what to put it to, exactly.

"Does that mean you're gonna sing too?"

Angel scowled. "That usually doesn't go over too well." He gave a short, embarrassed cough. "Or at least Cordy's never been exactly complimentary about my singing..."

"Now I've heard tha' one sing," Mel lead the way out the doors. "Can' keep a note that one. Doesn' know what she's talkin' 'bout." Okay, so she wanted to hear him sing. It wasn't a crime, was it?

"You know, you're right. She's probably just tone deaf and I sound just fine!" Angel said, following her out. "Alright, I'll sing something if you do--maybe I'll finally do Stairway to Heaven..."

"Moonshine--you mean whiskey? Just...straight up?" asked Angel. Somehow he'd expected her to be like most girls and want something mixed in, fruity or sweet. "I think that can be arranged," he said, and wandered off to the bar, returning with a bottle of whiskey and two shot glasses.

"'mfull of surprises, 'member?" She replied before pouring the shots and setting them on the table within reach. "Think ya'll can keep up?" She teased before slamming the shot back. A pleasant numb feeling burned down the back of her throat and for the briefest of instances, she thought she was back home. She half expected Kettie Rawls to appear and give her grief, but as it were, she wasn’t home.

She was far from it.

Angel smiled at the suggestion of a contest. "Well, technically a vampire shouldn't even be able to get drunk, considering we don't actually digest--" He broke off, deciding she probably didn't want to hear about his physiology. It was like breathing or eating--he didn't have to, but he could. And right now the idea of getting a little drunk with Melaka sounded like fun.

"I think I can," he said, taking up the other shot and downing it. "And we still need to pick a song."

Mel chuckled, "Well I'll get righ' on tha' then," she moved over to the stage and picked up a book before returning and settling herself down in a seat at their selected rounded table. She opened the book and stuck her finger on a random page, "Britney Spears?" She frowned.

Mel felt the backlash as well and staggered back, feeling a twinge at the back of her skull, "spun..." the room was spinning. Not good. She couldn't decide whether the whisky had finally decided to kick in, or something bad had just happened. She moved over to the teleprompter and switched it off. "'msorry?" She said to no one in particular and set her microphone down on the stool on the stage before staggering over to Angel. "Couldda been worse," she offered him.

Angel groaned and sat up. "You'd think a good sanctuary spell would know the difference between actual fighting and choreography," he complained. "Well, that was fun...for a while. Less bored now?"

"Very," she grinned and offered him a hand up, "but'm all tired now. An' dizzy," she added with a frown, shaking her head to try to stop the little spots that appeared in her vision. "'m tryin' ta decide whether we should go home, or drink s'more."

"Well, I do have to drive, eventually, unless I just leave the car here for the night," Angel said. The shock of the spell had knocked him back to sobriety, and he wasn't all that happy about it. He'd had a nice break from being annoyed about Cordy's liason with Christian and he wanted to continue to not think about it.

"We could pick up a bottle and go tie one on at the hotel...did you know it has a ballroom?" he suggested.
