This post has two purposes. First! I know there are other vampires/vampire-hunters/what have in camp. I am not familiar with all those canons! So what I need from you is if you're capable of sensing vampires and generally how vampires work in your canon. Yes, this is partly for my own information, but also so we can figure out how Sanctuary- ( Read more... )

S'UP

In my canon, I AM half of the duo who made up Jack the Ripper (Alastair Chambers, the Viscount of Druitt, being a red herring). SO YEAH. A BIT OF A TIE-IN THERE.

Vampires and other undead do not exist in my canon but as a grim reaper Grelle should be able to sense what a vampire is since ... among other things her job is to take souls when their owner's body's time is up.

Just a bit! He'll probably just be sort of wtf at it, should it ever come up, since the Ripper he knows is a close ... frenemy? idek how to define their relationship. But either way he looks nothing like Grelle.

Would the fact that Sanctuary vampires aren't dead make a difference to grim-reaper-sense?

I imagine not haha. YEAH she'll probably roll with it just being a cross-universe thing.

Ummm. Hmmm. Depends on what their situation actually is?

They're a different species of being. One of the many species of abnormal (read: all those non-human life-forms). In this case, Sanguine vampiris, common name: vampires. Uh. Born that way (usually), very hard to kill, seem to have either very long life spans or are immortal until killed. At the very least, they don't seem to age.

SHE IS A VAMPIRE HUNTER WHO WILL ONE DAY BECOME A VAMPIRE and canon is totally vague on whether or not she can sense vampires. If she can, she pretends not to at one point but we also know she was pretending to not be as strong/involved as she was AND she already knew they were vampires from something else and was pretending not to know. ACTUAL VAMPIRES in our canon can sense other vampires (well, smell them). Basically I tend to play it by ear. Uh vampires in Vassalord are very traditional. No sunlight, can cross running water with soil and experience, can turn into bats and stuff, blood-summons, etc.

Vampires in Sanctuary are... a completely different species. Still (I presume) blood drinkers, given the species name. So if she can sense them there's that. Also the traditional weaknesses aren't a problem; we see Tesla out in full daylight any sort of ill effects.

Yeah, you might want to write up how vampires in Sanctuary work and have us respond to that instead siiiince. Right now we seem to be working backwards a bit. There are a variety of types of vampires in Vassalord (as there are in literature -- we have a vampire who sold his soul to become one, a vampire who is a clone of a vampire, sexy vampires made through the traditional biting and blood-swap, and a big sack of blood with a face on it) so it's hard to anticipate the similarities without knowing more.

I did do a thing! I just thought more people would read the link in my intro. Should you wish, it's right over here

Vampire who can sense other vampires! Cheryl already went over how vampires work in Vasslord, which is good, because I always wind up forgetting something important.

Would the sensing still work if vampires are a different species from humans entirely?

....i have no idea. But she can generally sense if people aren't human, though it's only really specific if they're vampires. SO IDK IT MIGHT?

Well, he's very much not human. Or rather, isn't entirely human - he's part-human, part-vampire.

Dru is a vampire! She is fairly psychic but also fairly crazy so it is really is up to you what she senses or doesn't. I have notes on Buffyverse vamps over here.

Sanctuary vampires are a different species from humans so... I guess the question is how does sensing work in the Buffy-verse.

It's more how sensing works for Dru, because I don't think most Buffy!Vamps can tell. I tend to play her as seeing bits and pieces of people emotions or past experiences, but mostly just reading what's right in front of her and announcing it in strange ways. Does being a different species mean he's configured differently at all?

Well, he's not dead. But other than that, I'd imagine he works very much like a human. He still bleeds, and presumably still eats. It's just he's also part vampire as well and thus doesn't seem to age.

VAMPIRE o/

Vampire Diaries vamps do not have any intrinsic supernatural vampire-sensing senses! They have heightened senses of sound/smell/vision etc, though. TVD vamps get more powerful with age and what they eat. So for example Katherine is stronger than Damon 'cause she's older, Damon is stronger than Stefan cause he drinks blood and Stefan doesn't.

I think that's about that.

\o fellow vampire. Tesla is going to like not being alone. :Dd

Sounds good, and Tesla himself hasn't got any way to sense other vamps, so we should be good.
