Huh?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, I'm not bothered by the LJ changes. Losing a header I never used and getting icon pictures instead of a drop down title list when leaving comments doesn't seem that big a deal to warrant all the fuss.

Am I missing something?

I don't use subject headers very often, but they're essential for things like comment fic memes or other high-traffic posts where readers want to find stories and mods need to keep track of prompts that have been filled. And their dropping them because they"re "ugly" when thousands of comments have expressed why they are needed is just plain obnoxious. (How about this genius developer actually find a way to make them better looking?)

From all reports, the guy in charge of this decision has been quite the asshole about it.

For me it's mostly the comment subject lines disappearing, because it makes kink memes and other posts with huge amounts of comments unusable D: And it slows down bigger entries. I don't mind it that much for my own journal as I can use a customized layout there, but bigger comm posts or memes are now totally unusable. D:

It becomes a pain when I comment in certain journals, but for me it's more the way they went about it, and the constant "improving" that they like to do that doesn't really improve anything while the truly glitchy stuff seems to be ignored. The developer insulting the userbase was totally unprofessional and uncalled for too.

You can't credit icon makers when you load an icon. It's weirdly hard and slow to expand a thread now the parent/thread options have gone; sometimes I find myself clicking on each individual response which takes forever. Without subject lines, a huge thread is a mass, nothing to jump out at you.

In some styles, you can't preview and edit.

People are reporting migraines/nausea from the new layouts.

When you have a lot of icons it can take forever (and use a lot of bandwidth) for them to load and they're in the last loaded order so with 100+ it's difficult to find the one you want.

Plus, they did it in the face of near unanimous 'do not want' and in a lot of secrecy. They weren't at all open about it and in fact some of the people involved have been openly mocking the user base (in Russian. Like they think no one but them can speak it/translate).
