Welcome to Canada

it's the Maple Leaf State
Canada, of Canada it's great

Sadly there were no royal mounties, bags of milk, or venison slurpies on my trip (NB: obscurish song reference).  However, there was a visit to Smokey Tom's, or more accurately, hazy Tom's, a trip to the shoe museum, a weekend of lovely nerdy conversation, and a long awaited drink.

All in all, it ( Read more... )

Lots of lumber and lumberjacks and logs! I'd say it can't be that obscure if I know it, but I guess the Christian-punk listening subset of your lj readers is pretty small.

Yes, and I was assuming from the onset that you'd be the first to pick up the reference. By obscurish, I meant not mainstream pop (otherwise, I'd have just said obscure).

Incidently, no Shatner either.

Hosers take off, it's not half bad! holomorphic January 25 2008, 21:01:35 UTC
I can still sing about 3/4 of that song by memory. Your onetime Christian-ska (FIF as punk?!?) listening subset is larger than you might have guessed.

Glad it was such a neat trip! Is the "confusing Canadian Customs" solely about the pizza, or was there another source of hilarity?

Ok, so I've perhaps underestimated my audience. It was really just the shoe museum/pizza combo. However, US customs did give me the pleasure of searching my car as I returned to the states, because apparently Americans like to bring back a lot of contraband from Toronto. Thankfully, apparently terrorists don't drive their mom's cars and carry developmental biology textbooks on drug/weapons runs.

Was slurpee just misspelled? Not that I thought highly about a punk band with positive happy lyrics anyway; my Über-Catholic ex-girlfriend used to listen to them. They can all be lumberjacks, and that's okay.

Smokey Tom's Yay! marscracklepop January 26 2008, 21:45:20 UTC
And the shoe museum (since I've actually been there.)

I hope the drive went as smoothly as possible, given the conditions.

I'm surprised you didn't see any Mounties at the border. Every time I've come by road I've seen them.
