Daesung was deep in thought as he led them absently. He knew he wouldn’t get them lost if he followed the trail. The birds bickering above their heads, Youngbae’s grunting and wheezing as he carried the supplies, Seungri’s incoherent babbling, and Sarah’s replies became background music. His thoughts were the main vocal. A thoughtful and solemn look crossed his face as he pondered life, not his own though. He was thinking about the welfare and success of the largest candidate to the background noise.

“Noona, how far did you walk to get here? Did you know that Jiyong-hyung broke his naked statue? Do you want to hear Seunghyun-hyung’s scary story? Do you like the park, Noona?”

Sarah looked from Seungri’s thoughtful glance to the forest surrounding them. “Well, I think it’s very-”

“I didn’t like it at first either, Noona,” Seungri agreed immediately. “It was too big and when I looked into it I got that funny empty feeling in my stomach.”

“You mean fear?”

“Yes, Noona, the f-word. You know, I asked Daesung-hyung once what the f-word was and he said that it had four letters and that I didn’t need to know any more. So I figured that it was ‘fear’. Aren’t I smart, Noona? It made perfect sense when I replaced it with the ‘bleeps’ I heard on T.V.”

Sarah smiled at Seungri’s gullible-ness. “Oh, really?”

“Yes, really, Noona,” Seungri continued marching forward as he spoke. “Like ‘bleep me’ is ‘fear me’ and ‘we like to bleep each other’ becomes ‘we like to fear each other’. I don’t know why they have to cover it up. It’s not a bad word. Adults are weird, Noona.”

Sarah choked as she tried to suppress her laughter. Seungri’s hyungs had done an excellent job to preserve his innocence. He reminded her of a curious seven-year-old. Only taller.

Seungri grinned as he saw Sarah’s crooked smile, thinking that she was really enjoying his company. He in turn was enjoying hers immensely. He finally had some one to talk to other that his boring hyungs.

He wasn’t in the mood for a conversation with Daesung. He couldn’t understand what Jiyong was talking about half the time. Youngbae was busy hauling everything, And Seunghyun shunned him.

“Guys,” Youngbae panted, stopping in the middle of the path. “Can we please take a break?”

“Hm?” Daesung blinked as he was instantly drove back to reality. “I don’t think we should until we reach Jiyong-hyung and Seunghyun-hyung. I wonder how far those guys went.” Daesung’s voice trailed away along with his thoughts. Nature had a mood that set everyone to stop thinking and start reflecting. To Daesung, however the impact was stronger and Youngbae had to accept that.

“But I’m the hyung,” he grumbled, wondering who put Daesung in charge. He grunted as he lifted himself up from the soft spot of grass that he had been resting on momentarily.

They didn’t have to walk further much to Youngbae’s delight. Sounds that had been missing from the trip drifted up to their ears as they rushed to the direction to where the lovely sounds were coming from. The squeals of delight, laughter, conversation, and voices of other people.

Daesung brushed away the branches from the last clearing of trees and revealed the expanse of beach, water, and half-naked people before them. He stretched an open arm out dramatically. “There you go! Civilization.”

“Finally!” Youngbae’s arms were ready to fall off as he came up from behind them.

“I’m sure Jiyong-hyung and Seunghyun-hyung are here. It shouldn’t be too hard to find them.”

Daesung left the safety of the trees with Youngbae lugging behind and walked onto the beach exposed to all the people. Seungri stayed with Sarah in the shade, still to hesitant to take a step forward. “Noona, what if they know us?” He said referring to the crowds.

“Then address them politely and leave as fast as possible.” Sarah’s eyes shone as she stepped out into the sun and coaxed Seungri to come out.

Seungri took one tentative step on the sand and pulled it back in again. He stayed in the shade fidgeting uneasily. All he needed was a good push ahead.

“BLURHGAHBLURHGAHBLURHGAH!!!”

Two monsters jumped out of the trees beside the Maknae with seaweed draped over their heads, threatening to eat Seungri’s brains.

The boy screamed and jumped out, scrambling behind Sarah. The monsters broke out into a laughing fit and slapped their knees, as they saw his expression.

“Hyung, that wasn’t funny!” Seungri whined when he realized who it was.

Seunghyun leaned on the tree for support as he chortled uncontrollably.

“Maknae, your face was so funny!” Jiyong gasped in between breathes. He managed to pick away the seaweed from his hair despite all the spazzing his body was taking. “You look like you saw a freaking ghost!”

“No, more that that,” Seunghyun said, wheezing. “It’s like he died, came back to life, and saw his ghost.”

Jiyong hacked at his hand at the tree trunk, trying to vent his laughter on something. “That’s even better!”

Seungri grimaced at his hyungs’ lameness and took his Noona’s hand. “C’mon Noona. Let’s go before everybody starts thinking that we hang out with drunk people.”

Daesung and Youngbae had already spotted a corner on the beach when Sarah and Seungri found them. It stood out enough for a fan to catch it a mile away. A large beach towel with their faces printed on it and an oversized umbrella that had the letters ‘DA BANGS’ printed clearly on the rim. Youngbae was lying on his stomach, recuperating from the torture he had been through.

Seungri ran to Daesung, who was rummaging their bags to see if someone remembered to pack swimming trunks. Seungri sat down on the beach towel beside Daesung looking up at his hyung.

“What is it, Seungri?”

“Hyung…”He whined, as he got Daesung’s attention. “Seunghyun-hyung and Jiyong-hyung played a mean trick on me and scared me.”

Daesung struggled as he tried to free a pair of shorts that was wedged in between someone’s extra white shirt and a bag of chips (that had been strategically sneaked in).

“Seungri,” Daesung grunted as he tugged on the shorts. “I saw them already. They ran up to Youngbae and I with seaweed on their faces and told us they were going to have some fun.”

Seungri pouted when he realized that Daesung wouldn’t console him like he usually did. His eyes lit up as he spotted the shiny pouch inside the bag that Daesung was wrestling with. “Oh, look, chips!”

He reached into the bag and removed the object, causing Daesung to tumble over as the shorts gave way.

“No! It’s mine!” Jiyong trampled over Daesung as he snatched the chips from Seungri.

“Share, Ji,” Seunghyun stepped on Daesung before he had a chance to get up.

Youngbae opened one eye when his peace was disturbed. “Hyungs,” he mumbled. “You shouldn’t eat before swimming.”

“He’s got a point there.” Jiyong tossed the chips back into the bag. “We need trunks if we want to go swimming.” He spotted the pair of shorts that Daesung was holding. “Hey, thanks, Dae!”

He grabbed the trunks and took off with Seunghyun behind him giggling obnoxiously.

Daesung groaned and let his head fall back on the sand, as his hyungs kicked sand in his face as they scrambled down the beach.

“I’M DROWNING!!!” Seungri took another gulp of lake water as he fought the waves. He gasped at Seunghyun who was floating lazily a few feet away. “Hyung, save meee!”

Seunghyun didn’t even bother to open an eye as he mumbled. “Not now, Maknae. In a few minutes.”

“But, hyung…” Seungri’s voice gurgled as he ducked under the water, his body slowly giving away to the power of the waves. So this is the end. Seungri thought darkly as he watched the last of his air leave in a trail of bubbles and disappear at the surface.

A pair of sturdy hands grasped his arms and hauled him above water.

“Seungri, what are you doing?” Daesung asked as he stood in the knee-deep water wiping the maknae’s bangs away. “We’re not supposed to be attracting attention.”

Seungri frowned when he realized his attempt to get Seunghyun’s attention ended in fail.

“C’mon, Maknae, cheer up,” Daesung said, giving him a Cheshire grin and carrying up Seungri by his shoulders like a doll. He prodded the boy’s face gently trying to poke out a smile from his gloomy face.

Seungri pushed Daesung’s hand away. “Don’t do, that, Hyung. People will think that we’re homo or something.” He left Daesung and treaded to the deeper water to see what Jiyong was doing.

The air tickled Seunghyun’s nose as he floated above the water with his arms crossed behind his head. The shrieking and screaming coming from the children, parents, and teenagers, and birds were muffled while his ears were submerged in the water. He could tell it was about two hours into noon by the sun that warmed his face and made him squint. This was a long pause from life itself. It would be no surprise if he fell asleep on the spot.

Suddenly, two slimy arms snaked around his waist and pulled him under water. Seunghyun panicked as he struggled with the force that held onto him. It grabbed his body pulling him lower under water. He kicked at the thing, trying to pull free. When he was almost at the verge of drowning he felt himself rise to the top.

“You looked so funny!” Jiyong chortled the moment his mouth was above water. “Did you seriously think you were going to die?”

“Don’t do that!” Seunghyun screamed, splashing water at Jiyong. He waves his hands in the water causing havoc as he closed his eyes. Taking the chance, Jiyong went under water silently and tugged Seunghyun’s pants down.

Seunghyun suddenly felt bare and stopped splashing. His cheeks burned red when he realized what Jiyong did.

Seungri, who had been swimming towards them popped out of the water.  His eyes wide with fright. “Ohmahgosh! I just saw something I didn’t need to see!”

“You mean the moon?” Jiyong asked as he came back to the surface.

“Jiyong, what the heck? I’m going to kill you!”

“Uh oh.” Jiyong dived under the water as Seunghyun pulled his trunks up with one hand and tried to grab him with the other. He giggled in between breaths as he swam for his life with Seunghyun only inches away.

Daesung found Seungri sitting dejected on the shore. The waves lapped at his toes, as the Maknae sat with his legs hugged towards his stomach. He was still upset that he hadn’t been able to spend any quality time with Seunghyun.

“Maknae, it’s time to eat.” Daesung tapped his shoulder lightly before setting himself on the sand beside him. “What’s wrong, Seungri?”

He sighed. The same way a child would when he realized that there were on more cookies left. Daesung found it cute, but he didn’t tell him. Seungri was in one of his moments. “Hyung, what do I do when I feel bad for not doing something that I wanted to do badly?”

“You complain to me.” Daesung sat closer, tossing Seungri’s wet hair and then patted it onto place. “Then you let me comfort you.”

Seungri smiled softly and leaned his head on Daesung’s shoulder. Daesung had always been there for him; this was one of those instances that he actually took the time to appreciate it.

A boy, who was being hurried down the beach by his mother, pointed at DaeRi and exclaimed loudly. “Mommy, look! They love each other!”

Everyone in hearing range turned curiously at the boy’s direction to see if they could catch some ‘action’.

The mother’s face went beet red as she thanked her lucky stars that the boy’s father was nowhere near and tugged at the her son, reprimanding him as they left.

If only it was sunset then this would be perfect. Daesung thought as he peered at the sun that was still high in the horizon.

“Yah, love ducks!” Daesung and Seungri felt a wet towel slap the back of their necks. Before they could yell at the person for interrupting, Youngbae held up the towel proudly and smiled at them, dissolving their aggravated thoughts. “C’mon, eating time.”
