Its sunday morning and the phone rings. I hate to be woken up by a ringing phone, but I pick up because it could be my parents or someone in an emergency ( Read more... )

The next telemarketer better watch out.

Hell hath no fury like a scorned bovine, one whack they're going to get, eh? ;-)

WHAT?? This STILL happens? I am amazed. Did he tell you to knit and cook well?

Give them a good dose of cow-nselling and set their thinking straight!

Whoa!!! talk abt gender bias in the "free-world"...crazy!
While doing my MA in India, I interned at a market research agency, and there were certain products for which we would just not consider women (like luxury cars)..and I always thought that was pretty strange...I didn't think this sort of thing happened in the US as well!

Well the guy involved is still Indian. But gender bias is not unknown in the US either.

I am surprised you have trouble cutting off these morons. They are invading your world, so might as well show them what it feels like. Whenever I get such a call, I either ask for $1000 or the person's home phone number - usually both - before I hang up abruptly...

The worst are fund raising calls for the fire/police department. I feel obliged to listen to the whole spiel ! I agree with your point that their calls are an invasion of my space. The more such calls I answer, the easier its becoming to just hang up !

Funny:). Not because I'm rulling out gender stereotyping or that I'm not taking it seriously enough.

Funny because the guy under question could have had a million other reasons to cut the call - like say crosschecking if he got the name and gender right on his survey list, or if he was filling up the details of the survey on male NRIs and someone else was handling the female aspect. Heck, it could also have been a bathroom break:).

In either case, funny.

I suppose it is possible ...... in the same way that its possible that the water main next to his desk broke, or that his hair caught fire ..... but that wasnt the impression I got :)

If he had a good reason to not take my opinion, I wish he would have told me! In my experience, this kind of thing happens often enough for me to not give him the benefit of doubt.

haha:)..no, I really don't think what I suggested was that far-fetched. I know a thing or two about surveys and the metrics are quite strictly defined in many surveys - which could have been the case here.

In my experience, this kind of thing happens often enough for me to not give him the benefit of doubt

It's tough considering you come across such people a little too often. At the same time, I know quite a few people who's experiences are foundations for premeditated opinions in debatable issues of this kind. In any case, certainly hope the guy meant well and nothing of the sort you thought it to be. If not, he's got it coming:)
