[It had been a while since Riku had gone alone to gather his thoughts. With all the arrivals from "back home" he hadn't had much time to reflect, or in many cases... vent. Which is what he was doing now, in the forest. For

[This is the second day in a row that Rep has sensed Riku out in the forest. That by itself isn't unusual, since it's Riku's routine. Rep stopped fixating on Riku's energy signal once he figured that out, but today he feels a surge out there - almost like Riku's power had doubled.

His curiosity is too great. He pockets his SFC, changes into Dark Mode and summons his Soul Eater at the same time, then teleports to the general area where he thinks Riku is. He winds up a few yard away, and that's when the scent gets more distinct. It's not Riku with twofold power; it's Riku and someone else with a nearly identical scent to his and Rep's own. Only at close range can Rep discern the difference.

He takes a few steps toward the not-Riku scent, eventually coming upon another young man.]

Hey, you there! Who are you?

[angelphones]

[He senses the sudden power, and waits for him to approach, before turning to face the second silver-haired boy. He looked really close to the first, but... huh. He smiles at the boy.]

My name's Katsu. What's yours?

[boundbynaught]

[Well that smile's a little disarming. He opens his mouth, closes it, and tries again.]

Caden. [Beat.] Why does your power smell so much like his? [He jerks his head towards Riku, off a little ways.]

[angelphones]

['Smell'? That's a weird way of putting it.]

I couldn't tell you. I don't know who he is.

[boundbynaught]

There's light, and darkness too. You can wield both without restraint, without fear - [He looks over at Riku again.] - same as Riku.

[angelphones]

[Mm. Maybe he should look into hiding his power if he can.]

So you can tell. Huh.

... But you're right. I do have both angelic and demonic power - or light and dark, as you call it.

[boundbynaught]

It's not just that. [ He keeps his blade at his side, but extends a hand to gesture as he speaks. ] Most everyone is made up of light and dark - only very rarely is someone purely light, or cloaked in darkness. The difference is accessing that power - both kinds - and making it do whatever you want.

Supposedly, he's the only one who can do that. Guess they were wrong after all.

[angelphones]

[He tilts his head slightly, listening to what Caden is saying.]

I went through a lot to be able to get this power. Making it do whatever I want... that's what's taking longer.

Do you study this stuff where you're from?

[boundbynaught]

[ He snorted slightly at that remark. Riku had been through a lot too, and not by studying. ]

Not quite. Call it an ability I've been honing since birth.

Maybe 'do whatever you want' wasn't quite right, then. You aren't him, after all, but you've certainly got the potential for it, or the balance would be off with you.

[angelphones]

All right.

[He smiles a little bit.]

Balance is good. Better than one extreme or the other.

[He'd been sliding through both sides in recent months, hadn't he? Maybe whoever it was in the clearing - Riku? - could help him with that. Then again, he didn't want to come off as desperate. He'd have to think about it.]

[ Rep casts his hand idly into the air, like a lazy wave, and prepares to leave. ]

Maybe only the real ones. [ That thought he keeps to himself. ]

NO PROBLEMO, LET'S SEE IF I CAN STAY CONCENTRATED LONG ENOUGH--

Well, at least it doesn't leave you blind.

[Yes, he had been listening in--at least to the last portion. Sensing two people with power like his had drawn his attention over beating some poor dead tree.]

That part's just me.

[He glances over at the other boy, shaking his head a bit.]

For a blind man you seem to be able to get around pretty well.

[ Rep slowly turns over his shoulder - yes, even now Riku's wearing the blindfold, but why- ] His powers leave him blind?

[ He debates sticking around, but what for? He got his answer from Katsu, so it had nothing to do with Riku all along. He doesn't really want to stick around the Real Thing any more than he has to, so he starts walking away again. ]

HOW YOU GUYS DOIN'?

I'm blind by choice.

[He just shrugs, not really hiding the face he's blindfolded. Then he "sees" the fake him leaving.]

Good to see you again...? [Hey, not like he knows the name you chose, Fake.]

[He doesn't say anything about Caden walking away. If he wants to walk away from someone he knows, he shouldn't interfere.]
