It'd been a few days now since Yukari's birthday had passed on the nineteenth, and thanks to the kraken, she'd had to delay her plans

Selphie in the Water! Everyone Come Splash!

*Selphie was like a - a duck to water. And she oddly resembled one too. With all the flapping she was doing, and that yellow bikini, she did look a bit special. But she was clearly having a lot of fun, chasing the waves and jumping around.

Don't worry, Yukari! She hasn't forgotten it's your birthday. There's a big batch of reasonably edible chocolate cookies and a handmade birthday card waiting for her on the beach that says:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY YUKARI!~

I totally don't know you, but I hope your birthday is awesome!

Onion Knight, on the other hand, was going to stick to the beach, thank you very much! Aside from living in Vatheon, he'd been underwater before, but the only times he'd actually gone swimming was when he'd been turned into a toad.

At least he had the sense to wear something more practical for the beach. Instead of wearing his usual armour, he was wearing a shirt and shorts, but he couldn't quite bring himself to leave his sword back in his room underwater. Who knows what could attack them out here?

That was Selphie out there, wasn't it? He gave her a small wave from the beach, but he wasn't sure if she'd be able to see.

... She did make going out in the water look awfully fun, though.

Selphie stopped what she was doing to look out onto the beach. He wasn't wearing what he usually did, but she recognised Onion Knight all the same. In her excitement, she lifted a hand and waved brightly, calling loudly back to him, "Hey! Are you coming in?!"

Yeah, she was just a little too busy waving to pay attention to how she was standing, and she flopped suddenly beneath the water. She was in more shallow water, thankfully, and she soon emerged in fits of laughter.

Go and give him a heart attack, why don't you? Onion Knight freaked out a little when Selphie went under the water, but thankfully she'd resurfaced before he decided between running for help or trying to pull her out.

He huffed, but it was hard for him to look truly annoyed when he was so relieved. "Be careful out there, Selphie!" he called back.

He wasn't entering the water though. Nuh uh.

He's not coming out? Selphie puts her hands firmly on her hips and begins to storm her way out of the water. She's stomping into the sand, alright, but she looks far from angry, judging by the cheeky look on her face. Eventually, she out of the water and beckoning to him, "Come ooon! It's fun!"

Ahahaha... no.

Onion Knight shook his head vigorously. He'll just... stay over here, on the beach, where it wasn't wet.

Nope. No way. You're not getting out of it that easy.

Selphie's getting closer, and she's holding out a hand. Watch out! She might grab you!

Nuh uh. Onion Knight's backing away from Selphie and her outstretched hand.

He doesn't look like he's going to bolt just yet -- this would be a really stupid thing to run away from! -- but it's pretty clear he doesn't want to get in the water of his own volition.

Selphie drops her hand immediately and pouts a little, aware that apparently swimming in the sea wasn't Onion Knight's cup of tea.

"Okay, we don't haveta!"

She tries to close the gap between them again, looking sympathetic, "Don't you like the water?"

Now that the imminent threat of being dragged into the water seems to be gone, Onion Knight relaxes a little.

"It's... alright," he admits. "Just..." He glances over at the water lapping at the beach, before he changes his mind about what he was going to say. "Never mind."

Selphie glances him over and tilts her head slightly - could it be possible that people are actually afraid of water? She smiles softly at him.

"Hmm? You don't like it?"

Onion Knight's resolve to keep things to himself wavered under that smile.

"I've never been in it," he admitted.

Well... technically that wasn't quite true, but being in boats and submarines while crossing rivers and seas didn't really count.

"What?" Selphie smiled and did her utmost not to laugh. Not at him, but just at the situation. She couldn't help but find it amusing.

"Really? Come on, it's easy. I'll show you!"

Onion Knight huffed a little; he could tell she was holding back a laugh! It wasn't his fault he spent most of his life in a village out near the mountains!

Casting an uneasy glance at the weapon by his hip -- the water might damage the blade -- he gave Selphie a small nod before conceding, "I guess if we don't go too far out..."

Selphie too looked at the weapon and shook her head gently - it was sweet that he'd even brought it in the first place.

"Why don't you leave that here? I promise, nothing will happen to it, and nothing will happen to you, okay?"

And she's already leading the way to the edge of the water, turning back to give him a big wink. As mischievous as Selphie can be, she'd of course never deliberately upset him.

Onion Knight looks torn. Not carrying a weapon would be... weird. Back in his world, you couldn't take more than a few steps without running into some kind of monster, and during the war between Cosmos and Chaos, there was the constant threat of manikins.

... But it's peaceful right now, and... well, he always has magic, right?

After a moment of hesitation, he nods and follows Selphie, placing his sword on the sand nearby so he can reach it quickly if necessary before standing next to her, waiting for her to make the first move.
