I really like the additions, especially the last bit with Sam and Dean. And Inara protecting River. Lovely. *g*

Glad you liked it, especially the bit with Sam and Dean at the end -- the rough draft, in this case, was pretty rough.

I'm not sure when Dean will put the pieces together about Inara not being the one to fire that gun, but I expect he'll work it out eventually.

oh, this came together with a bang! Nicely done. (Worth the wait, but I don't have to say that, really, do I?)

John and the swamp monster, and the demon, and the stairwell! HA!

Also - "we were worried about Jayne" - *dies*

And I'm looking forward to learning more about what happened with Sam that pissed Dean off so much at John. Maybe a flashback? Maybe a prequel?

A rollicking good ride, in character and solid.

I hope that there have been enough hints about the Dean and John fight to give you at least a sense of what was going on there? I probably won't do either a flashback or a prequel, but I'll fill in more details as we go. Probably from Sam's persepctive, since he's kind of at the heart of it.

Tentacles! I couldn't resist possibility the tentacles. Or demons. And I'm very glad that you liked the thing with the stairwell. I could hear zoe there, so clearly.

Glad that you're enjoying it, and that everyone seems themselves here.

YeeeHA! Oh, I love it! The final bit is wonderful, it unifies the whole section and zooms out perspective-wise to a perfect close, and your edits are really spot-on, need I say. This is so much fun!

I need a tentacle icon. There must be one somewhere.

Thank you again for all you comments -- it makes a huge difference, especially with a piece like this, where I can get overwhelmed by the plotting and the blocking elements. I'm particularly glad that the final section works, since I sweated over it for a while.

I think they have tentacle icons in anime fandoms.

Yeah, sorry, it was River with the rifle. John had other things on his mind, and wasn't really looking. Dean will work it out eventually. (But Inara as a sharpshooter is a cool idea. maybe I should have used it!)

I'm glad you're enjoying the Dean and John stuff -- I'm having fun writing it, although you know it would be nice if they actually did talk to each other once in a while. ;->

The four of them look down the stairwell, at the body twitching on the lowest level. "Hunh," Mal says.

"What the hell do you mean by that?" Dean asks, adding a "Sir?" in case his dad can't tell how he feels.

"That weren't... ow!" Jayne says. He's crowded into the front, right next to River.

I loved this! So much. Simon stabbing the demon and then trying to fix her up, John and Dean taking the time to have an argument in the middle of a crisis, and the final words.

I noticed in a rewatch of Ariel that Simon actually takes out his guard before Jayne's done beating his to death -- he crushes the guy's throat with his knee until he's unconscious. So he's capable of violence, but he doesn't like killing people.

John and Dean are kind of hopeless, aren't they? I'm so glad that you enjoyed this, especially the final words -- because I spent hours agonizing over how to end this piece!
