Personality:

As far as personality goes, your first impression of Battler will probably consist of his fun and out-going personality. He's a bit of a goofball, loving to crack jokes and keep things simple. He gets along well with most people, primarily his cousins, but he often feels awkward around people who tend to give off a serious atmosphere, such as Natsuhi and Krauss. He tries his hardest to be friendly with these kind of people when needed, but it's not an easy thing for him. One way he tends to approach people - women, of course - will be to make an attempt to grope their breasts as a sort of greeting, often times because he's not quite sure how else to react. Naturally, he expects a slap in the face before his hands can get anywhere closeby, and will probably freak out if his expectations aren't met, never actually assuming that he'll be able to grope whomever it is he's greeting in the first place. This is all a part of his personality that desires for things to remain in a light, happy atmosphere, even if his jokes tend to get a bit crude, if not completely perverted. He does not bode well around the tightly-wound. Surprisingly enough, his cousin George is one of his greatest role models, acting as someone who's practical and intelligent in his eyes. Although he admires him, he does disagree with some of George's beliefs, mostly due to his stubbornness concerning his family issues.

As mentioned, Battler doesn't like having to act serious when it isn't needed. He wishes his life to be fun forever, even if he's well-aware that it doesn't work that way. He cares little for riches or money, contrasting greatly with the rest of his family who views the family fortune as their goal. Money is nice, sure. But it's not something that he greatly cares for, as he's seen how it can spoil a family.

Battler acts strongly on his emotions. They tend to get the better of him more often than not. If he can't handle the severity of the situation, he'll break down and cry, or he may break out in anger. It's not unusual for his anger to get the better of him, either. Likewise, he can keep his calm when the situation calls for it, normally when others around him are being strongly emotional. His tangents won't last too long, and he'll eventually fall back on track with determination and often with a new resolve. He has a knack for learning from his mistakes and using it to his advantage later on. One of Battler's strongest emotional points, however, tends to be his compassion. He claims that he "can forgive an opponent if they act soft", something that tends to hold true throughout the series. In EP3, Battler had found it within himself to join forces with Beatrice once she began to treat others around her with kindness and mercy, now that she no longer had an obligations to the game board -- this is all despite the fact that only hours earlier, she was laughing without restraint at the cruel deaths of his family, something Battler had claimed he could not forgive. It just goes to show how much that "soft look" affects his judgement and thinking.

Another strong example of this side of him occurs in EP4's tea party. With the determination to come home to his little sister shining through his eyes, he insists that he will show no mercy to the cruel witch.

""Dad, Mom, and Ange. All of the cousins and all of the relatives. And all of the servants. You toyed with them so much and killed them...!! I definitely won't forget, won't forgive that inhumanity! I can still feel... Ange's arms on my shoulders...!! I won't forgive your inhumanity...!! So I won't let you get away like this...!!!"
Battler's eyes burned with the flames of hatred... The time had long since passed during which pitiful behavior would have earned his compassion. ... After being tricked once, Battler will never sympathize with me again."

As much as Battler genuinely and fully intends to stick by his word and insists that he will drag her down to hell for "what she's done", things begin to change when he starts noticing how eagerly Beatrice is insisting on handing their match over to him, making it quite clear that she has only continued their cruel game for so long due to some sort of unknown obligation, where she has absolutely no choice but to do so. By the end of their logic fight, Beatrice is pierced by several blue stakes as though appearing crucified, as his blue truths of logic have served their purpose of trying to erase and destroy the illusion that is Beatrice. It is then that he slowly begins to understand the pain and torture that she's been put through -- that in actuality, she had put up a front for him for whatever reason that he didn't understand yet.

Certainly, Battler had been tricked by her at one point. So he was probably able to suspect that her expression... that even her tears were an act. However... Battler... believed those tears. ... After all, those tears... had the red truth mixed in with them.

Were those tears from pain and torment... or else... Either way, that pathetic expression... was painful for Battler to look at, even after burning with such anger...

It's because of his weakness for sincerity and his desire to help those in need that he asks Beatrice what he can do to help end her pain. She asks her to kill him, and Battler excepts her request, promising that he'll solve her mystery and do whatever it takes to keep that. Throughout EP5, Battler grows very devoted to her promise as he works hard to "turn the chessboard over" and tries to figure out Beatrice's style of thinking.

Sometimes, it takes a very significant event to give Battler that final push. In EP4, it was the death of his littler sister, Ange, that gave him the will and determination to continue his fight against Beatrice's riddles. In EP5, it was Beatrice fading away after losing faith in Battler's ability to keep his promise to her. This strongly angers and devastates Battler to the point where his determination to keep his promise leads him into finding the truth behind the tale Beatrice has woven, resulting in Battler's promotion to Purgatory's new Endless Sorcerer and Game Master. He swears that he will do everything in his power to revive Beatrice and show her himself how far he's gone to own up to his end of their promise.

After learning the truth, Beatrice becomes a definite romantic interest for Battler. It's revealed that she possesses every single quality that Battler likes best in women he finds to be the most glamorous. On top of that, Battler would eat dirt in order to preserve Beato's honor as evidenced by his submission to Erika during their "wedding", proving his utter loyalty and devotion to the things he has his heart set on.

Extra:
Character Abilities: Although Battler is an ordinary human in the beginning, things eventually change when he joins Beatrice in Purgatory to deny her existence to prove the mass murder on Rokkenjima was performed through "human" means. Throughout episodes 2-3, he continues to think up logical theories in order to solve Beatrice's claims said in the "red truth" -- a statement, when spoken in "red", becomes the "truth". Although he came up with some interesting theories using any sort of loopholes he could, without any kind of "definite" truth, his theories continued to be smashed by the red.

Battler also has very powerful magic-resisting toxins. When the Siesta sisters are ordered to shoot at him with their magical threads, they weren't able to land a hit. His magic resistance levels were at 9999999999... and so on. In other words, endless nines.

In episode 4, Battler is given the ability to speak with the blue truth. The blue truth is used when stating theories that have been concluded. Everything spoken in the blue remains as truth until denied by the red. He is also finally able to speak in the red truth. He continues to use these abilities throughout the majority of episode 5 while making theories and crushing magical illusions. Finally, by the end, Battler finds that he's reached the truth of Beatrice's game and the moves she makes when going against him. This grants Battler the position of Game Master and the new Golden Sorcerer, where he is able to speak in the gold truth. The gold truth, like the red truth, speaks an absolute truth -- but there is a difference. There are no loopholes whatsoever when it comes to the gold truth. It is, quite literally, the definite truth; no ifs, ands, or buts. It can also only be spoken in a position where the entire truth is understood; in other words, no random guessing until you hit gold. In general, as the Game Master in episode 6, he fully understands the foundations of magic and how it works, understanding Beato's game completely. Therefore, he is able to utilize magic.
Possessions: None asides from... his clothes, I suppose.
Anything else: You're all a bunch of disgusting enablers
