[x] Howling at the Sky - Because we all know how good I am at sticking to things like this!: Since we're in a vid-talking mood these days (thanks, Vividcon!), I adjusted that 30 days of fanfic meme to fit fanvids. Some of the questions did not translate well at all, so bear with me here. *g* 30 Days of Vidding Day 1 - How did you first get into vidding, and what was the first fandom you vidded? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

[x] c'est dur de mourir au printemps -: doctor who | black dove by kiki_miserychic oh my god this vid. river song. and crazy, brilliant, absolutely flawless editing. i've never really had a lot of feelings about river song ... until now, that is. *draws hearts around this vid forever* firefly | come on by charmax aww yeah! this is awesome, so smooth & fun & just- kinda perfect. sherlock | of paradox by mresundance if i'd never seen your face / this world would be a different place - sherlock & john, so beautiful. x-men, first class | somewhere only we know by ipodsr2big erik, charles & raven. this hurts so good *cries* six feet under | sister, i need wine by laurashapiro brenda & her brother. ugh, this show... and this gorgeous song.

[x] Rat Creature's Journal - I rarely rec vids...: ...but this Charles/Erik vid by Tizumis is hilarious.
tags: xmen

[x] Falling Stars - X-Men: First Class has eaten my life, aka Their Love Is So Canon: Rolling in the Deep by arefadedaway I have rewatched this vid a ridiculous number of times. The vidder notes that she considered naming it ALL THE FEELINGS, and it totally *is*. It sums up everything about Charles and Erik and the decades of their relationship, and it makes me want to point at it and say, THIS. THIS. It's so epic it's breathtaking, and so personal it's heartbreaking, and the line we could have had it all is just, yes. That *is* their epic doomed love story. Which is tragic enough when you just watch First Class, but this vid goes on into the future and takes it to the end of the line. Oh, my heart.

[x] elisi's humble abode - Some recs. :): Vids Land's End by cherryice. Summary: River Song, awake in the waiting sea. Howl by such_heights. Summary: Be careful of the curse that falls on young lovers. (The Ponds.)

[x] A little bit of babbling about nothing - Things I've been pondering: Under the Red Hood & Aladdin mashup vid - One Jump Ahead This really amused me and it works perfectly. Also some day I should actually watch Aladdin.

[x] c'est dur de mourir au printemps -: leverage - and there are a few very awesome vids for that show! there was just a really fun crossover vid (with white collar) posted here. my other favorites: - in the ayer by renenet - start the commotion by danegen - imma be by talitha78 (but i think there also a lot of good buffy/angel vids around - it's a pretty popular fandom. maybe check this tag; sol_se usually recs great stuff)

[x] coffeejunkii: vid rec: i swear [clex]: if you have ever watched smallville, you must watch dualbunny and sweetestdrain's clex vid i swear. if you like crack and cracktastic fannish tropes, you must watch this. as i said previously, when i watched this at vividcon, i laughed so hard i cried. and that was only the first minute of the vid. do not watch this in public or in non-fannish company!! to watch the vid, or if you'd like to download the vid or tell the vidders how awesome they are, here's the vid post.

[x] the cell of space that holds me - Odds and ends: Speaking of Queer as Folk, a vid rec: Gave You All (Brian Kinney). God, I want to flay his mother...
tags: qaf

[x] taragel: My Kingdom for... a longer weekend.: It's VividCon time! So lots of vids flooding the flist, but I don't think anything's going to beat this cracktastic Smallville vid I Swear about how Clark and Lex fall in love, complete with sparkly Krypto-Horned Unicorn and mpreg/black kitten lovechild. LOL. It's so crazy it's fantastic. And really really well done. Best AU vid I've ever seen in fact. I also really enjoyed Millylicious' vid I Wanna Go about Angelina Jolie being the best badass action star of all time, and (though not a vividcon vid) Chaila's new Huge vid (Will! Athena! MY KIDS!) to one of my favorite songs, Matt Nathanson's All We Are.

[x] sawedoff_recs: 487: little bit of everything: title. Bad Seed vidder. PendragonWinchester characters. ensemble rating. PG13 length. 2:10 summary. Creepy kids, haunted houses and mystical rituals. All well used ingredients for horror movies but also in Supernatural.

[x] elisi's humble abode - Further to my post yesterday, now with illustration.: I went and re-watched The Noose, which is one of THE Ten vids (if I HAD to choose just one Ten vid, this would be the one), and oh, it's still awesome: And not to pull your halo down Around your neck and tug you to the ground But I'm more than just a little curious How you're planning to go about Making your amends to the dead Mmmm Ten. Oh you were so *beautifully* screwed up. (I mock because I love. ♥)

[x] Life Viewed Through an Amber Focus - Vid Rec: Mini-Movie: I found this last night and thought I would share.  It's a short movie, about 20 minutes.  It made me cry and laugh and smile and sigh.  It was sweet and heartbreaking and beautiful.  Just a lovely slice of life and romance.

[x] I Believe in Reinvention - Recs: SH, XM, HL, H5O, ST/Thor: Vids Evolution Leaps Forward | di_br [Gen, PG] Summary: Peace waiting for the DVD was never an option. ;P Review Note: Another fantastic surprisingly-only-from-the-promos vidlet by di_br. ♥ Rolling in the Deep | arefadedaway [Charles/Erik, PG-13] Summary: And I will always be there, old friend. Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, from beginning to end. Review Note: I think this would have been a more effective vid for me with a single pov, rather than both Charles and Erik, but that's my only quibble (as a wildly unsophisticated viewer) - I needed more than one watching to tease out some of the narrative threads. I'm going with the end (Erik's pov) as my favorite, in part because I know the end of that particular movie and how it hints at nothing being *final*.

[x] curled around these images - Instra vid rec!: RUN... don't walk!! Honestly. This will put the BIGGEST smile on your face. The lovely el1ie has put together a hilarious vid that captures the brothers' relationship in the best possible way. Take a break from the angst and go and have a laugh. :D My Brother an essay by Sammy Sam Winchester, aged 7 27 and three quarters Woot!

[x] coffeejunkii: rec: xmfc vid: oh, you guys, this is an amazing charles/erik vid, which i found thanks to cathexys: rolling in the deep by arefadedaway. it uses footage from the first three x-men films and intercuts them with xmfc to bring out some really impressive parallels and continuities. the vid is so awesome, but it reminds me that song choice always has a huge impact on whether or not i really connect with a vid. most of my favorite vids are made to song that i either already loved or have come to love thanks to the vid. i really wish this vid was made to a different song. i knew the song before and have always thought of it as a shallow pop song. obviously shallow boppy pop song =/= high emotional stakes of the vid. it's a really weird disjuncture between music and images, and while i often like juxtaposition in vids, it doesn't work for me here.

[x] kuwdora: Vividcon 2011 Con Report:  loved hearing people talk about sol_se's Asassination of Jesse James vid and how it helped create atmosphere and emotion in the vid. hen there was sol_se's remastered Sha're vid! and then Dante's Prayer omfg which just started the weeping in the room. But yeah fan_eunice's Marley and Me vid was one of the many vids that broke the con and started us all weeping, weeping uncontrollably.  OMG Roll with the Changes and Wil Wheaton's Been Busy! Feel it in my bones! HOTTNESS and awesome and I am not sure if this made me want to try watching The Vampire Diaries or not but I certainly feel more moved to make the attempt to watch than I was before....and that's saying somethinSit Down by the Fire which I had seen before the con and was omgsohappy that sweetestdrain had finished and submitted because it reminds me of all the things that I love and adore about the show. The characters, the beautiful cinematography and very rich and complex relationships between Jack and those around him. Thistle and Weeds by sisabet was EXACTLY the vid that I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for since the show ended. It makes my heart sing and GOD, I love Dany so much. Team Dany FTW. rhoboat's Session--a State of Play vid--was thrilling to see on the big screen, what with all the very diverse editing techniques, matching the sounds and omgggggg just how it moves. SO MUCH LOVE. I just freaking ADORED TIMES INFINITY mresundance's Debauchery in the UK. Johnny Lee Miller really played Lord Byron and had SO MUCH SEX? how come I have never seen this?! jfc amazing amazing amazing. My other favorite was barkley and destina's Land of Confusion which was V even though I've never seen the original V. The song choice was amazing. I also had a girlwoody for akemi42's Tron vid and the way she used the different music changes to blend the original film with the more recent one. nrrrrrg. And then the was I Swear, the vid that broke the con. I can't say anything that hasn't been said, tweeted or talked about at length already, omg. Catbaby, ya'll. CATBABY.

[x] kuwdora: Vividcon 2011 Con Report: I was really overwhelmed by seeing morgandawn and laurashapiro's Wonder of Birds and sisabet's Be So Glad on the big screen. So epic and awesome.   I think some of my favorites were Are You Gonna Be My Girl and Invincible because Aeryn Sun and Fiona are fucking awesome. I mean you have Closer and Papa Don't Preach but also the classic Angel My West Hollywood Lifestyle. I hadn't actually seen hollywoodgrrl's Merlin/Seeker vid before and it was really majestic on the big screen. So seamless. The vid that impressed me the most was the Smallville/Batman vid in which Lois Lane and Bruce Wayne fall in love. It was so perfect on every level.  I also love how everyone cheered for di_br's A Study in Time because Sherlock would definitely be hot on the path of the Doctor. I knew I had to see gwyneth's Running Up That Hill on the big screen.  ALSO OMG elipie's Bye Bye Bye vid for The Social Network was amazingly hilarious and so much fun I was about to fall out of my chair laughing.  And I was flaily hands when I realized isagel's Whitechapel vid was in this show, too! Win win win! Dynamite by bop_radar. Dhoom: 2. jfc everything about this--the musicality, the color, SAND SURFING, HEISTS, dancing dancing dancing, the editing and rollerblading through the air! Only the greatest thing in the history of everything. Gotta Boyfriend by cherryice which is a Scott Pilgrim vid. Wherein she said I have this song that I think would be good for Scott Pilgrim and she sent me the YouTube link and I told her she must vid this. AND OMG SHE DID LOOK, look at the cutting and the swirly movement and the colors and the lyyyyyrics are wonderful. I watch this all the freaking time on my ipod because my bus commute can get long and boring and this vid makes me THE HAPPIEST. Dance Dreams which is bradcpu's TRON: Legacy vid. OMG. This was so amazing on the big screen, everyone was drooling and having orgasms right there on the dance floor, not even exaggerating.

[x] pity the poor flamingo - I think there was magic in the air at Vividcon: absolutedestiny's Up vid was definitely the apex of an emotional con & boy did the tears flow. It was a cathartic experience for me personally. My FIL had passed away the week before, the funeral was the Monday of the con week & wow all of the emotions of the previous couple of weeks certainly came pouring out during that vid. In a good way - it celebrated the past & challenged us to look to the future.

[x] sapote | I don't realize I'm such a River fan until it's time to rec vids: kiki_miserychic's River fanvid Black Dove actually tackles the question of living a mother-daughter relationship backwards in time. Love. Love love love. I have lots of tl;dr thoughts about that aspect of the Big River Reveal; I'm really pleased to see the topic discussed so cleverly in fanvid form. ::hearts::

[x] alchemise: Varg Veum fans!: If you're not already a fan of the Varg Veum movies, they're a fantastic series of Norwegian private detective films, based on the series of books by Gunnar Staalesen. Check out mlyn's and feochadn's beautiful vid It Comes and Goes in Waves and get as completely addicted to these movies as I did. Seriously, I named my netbook Varg. *g*

[x] calvinahobbes: Vid rec: I Swear: You need to watch I Swear by dualbunny, greensilver, and sweetestdrain right now. It is Smallville Clark/Lex, and it is the most beautiful fanvid you will ever watch. Seriously. It is epic. Don't worry about not knowing canon; it is not a requirement to understanding all the heartrending nuances of Clark and Lex's special love. If you liked Papa Don't Preach I can only say, THIS IS BETTER. Do not consume fluids while watching this vid, and keep a safe distance between you and your computer at all times.

[x] astridv: Rec of the day: Birth & Death by Hayaaaateuh (Fullmetal Alchemist AMV) I think this vid is really mesmerizing in the way it captures the sheer epic scope of Arakawa's story. vidder's note: So, yes, the theme of death and loss is inherent in FullMetal Alchemist, as it is closely linked to many character's stories. But one of the reasons why this manga touched me so deeply is that Arakawa didn't only drew this side of life, but made her story come full circle by showing that there is always a hope of rebirth - may it be the birth of a family, of a brand new political era, or the rebirth of a culture.

[x] aria: the scars of your love they leave me breathless: Naturally this vid exists: arefadedaway has made an Erik/Charles vid to Rolling in the Deep, and if you have Erik/Charles feelings, you should RUN NOT WALK to see it; it is pretty much exactly the vid I have been craving. It has footage from all four films, and it made me clutch my face a lot (which -- I clutched my face is basically my go-to shorthand for it gave me ALL THE FEELINGS, but that's because things that give me feelings make me literally clutch my face) and I love it so much.
tags: xmen

[x] dodificus | Rec: X Men First Class: Rolling In The Deep Vidder: arefadedaway Fandom: X Men First Class Pairing: Charles/Erik Summary: And I will always be there, old friend. Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, from beginning to end. Throw your soul through every open door Count your blessings to find what you look for Turn my sorrow into treasured gold You pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow I literally only just bought this sone from itunes yesterday, so I nearly squealed in delight when I saw an X Men vid recced that used it. I couldn't be more happy with what I found, jam packed with emotion and depth, great cutting, *awesome* song. I loved it.

[x] HI [frostfire]: at VVC, one of the auction vids was for Young Frankenstein. Now, I have never seen Young Frankenstein, and as I was watching it, I was thinking, Dr. Frankenstein looks familiar. He looks like--he looks like a dad character from something. A dad character who sort of waves his hands like that. Christ, what fandom am I thinking of? I can almost picture him. He has an awesome smile. He can get angry sometimes, but he's a nice dad overall. Who is it? Who? Of course, because I am an utter failure at a) recognizing that two characters are played by the same actor even when the source is in the same vid (case in point: the excellent Master and Commander/Beautiful Mind crossover vid that played this year; three-quarters of the way through, I leaned over and asked my seatmate, Are they both the same actors? Really, both?) and b) pinning down That One [Fic/Book/Show/Movie] That I Am Thinking Of, I was not able to figure out who it was, and I vowed to bring up IMDB tonight and check the Young Frankenstein page to see what else that actor had been in. And so, after I got home and watched greensilver's super-hot Vampire Diaries vid twelve or fifteen times and then got down to the business of finding and downloading all of the vids I had marked in my program (one of the many, many reasons I adore VVC is that I am somehow just not...hooked up to the Central Vid Provider or something, because inevitably, even discounting Premieres, I have never seen 90% of the vids that are shown; if I didn't go to VVC, I would never have been exposed to literally dozens of vids I now could not live without), I remembered the Young Frankenstein conundrum. And, as so often happens, now that it was several hours later, I realized instantly who I had been thinking of. That's it! I thought. He looks like Massoud from EastEnders! But of course, it was not Massoud from EastEnders. It was Gene Wilder.

[x] giandujakiss | Some vid recs!: I hate reccing vids from VVC because it's like this flood of amazing stuff, and there's something for every fandom and every taste, and I dislike feeling like I have to choose vids. That said, here are a few that stayed with me: I Walked, The Borgias. Very interesting cutting style, focusing on Lucrezia and Cesare. Get the Party Started, Leverage and White Collar. So much fun how the vidder blends the 'verses. Come On, Firefly. Charmax delightfully highlights every beat and twang. Black Dove (January), Doctor Who, focused on River Song. Really amazing editing. A Sophisticated Song. Tribute to Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. Be still my heart. High Voltage, all the Stargates. I really only barely know Stargate but I just loved this aesthetically.

[x] bluemeridian | Lots o' Recs: .: Vividcon Vid Recs :. Sanctuary Blow | kuwdora [Gen, PG] Summary: This place is about to blow. Review Note: This falls under the category of 'fun vid' for me - I'm sure a regular Sanctuary watcher could pull a deeper analysis out of it. I just plain enjoy watching it. How to Train Your Dragon Roll with the Changes | fan_eunice [Gen-ish, PG] Summary: I'll be here when you are ready. Review Note: So adorable!! Stargate SG-1/Atlantis/Universe High Voltage | kuwdora [Gen, PG] Summary: High voltage: bringing you up and taking you down. Review Note: The POV for this is the Ancients, which I didn't know the first time I watched it and left me a bit perplexed. Now that I realize that, it's a fascinating vid! The Vampire Diaries Feel it in My Bones | greensilver [Damon/Stefan/Elena, PG-13] Summary: You are here to stay. Review Note: Pretty! Pretty in motion! Doctor Who You Told the Drunks I Knew Karate | settiai [Amy/Rory, PG] Summary: I do the dumbest things for you. Oh, Rory. No, scratch that. Oh, Ponds. ♥ Review Note: Hilarious! A perfect song for the subject, where Amy confidently leads the way into complete disaster and Rory comes stumbling after. :P X-Men Eric's Song | butterfly [Charles/Erik, PG] Summary: No matter what path Erik follows, Charles will continue to search for hope - for them both. Review Note: Sweet and heartbreaking and wonderful (this is why we need fix-it fic, because their story is too wonderful together for them to be apart). Young Riders Gonna Make You Love Me | dualbunny [Gen-ish, PG] Summary: Sometimes, when a group of Pony Express riders love each other very much... Review Note: I loved this show as it was airing and seeing it vidded is a warm and fuzzy nostalgia trip for me. ♥ Sherlock Holmes Murder on the Dance Floor | astolat [Gen, PG-13] Summary: Dancing! Sparkly lights! Murder! Yay! Review Note: Such a good fit for Sherlock!

[x] raveninthewind | VVC!: History: I particularly liked Woman King and Boom Boom Pow, Riot Grrls: So much fun! In gwyn_r's words: Women in action. There are more women in action shows and movies than ever before, so let's celebrate some chicks kicking ass and taking names. talitha78's Creator and lithiumdoll's Invincible were my favorites, but I liked Milly's I Wanna Go, an Angelina Jolie in action vid, too. Nearly New 1 & 2: SO many good vids, but these hit my fannish buttons and/or made me squee: Whole New Way by mresundance Only Girl (In the World) by talitha78 Samsa Morning by Dualbunny Personal Jesus by Killa What New York Used to Be by Gianduja Kiss Bye Bye Bye by elipie Such a good character vid: If You Stayed Over by kuwdora Deep by rhoboat was disturbing but compelling.

[x] such_heights: vvc insta-rec: You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate by settiai (Doctor Who, Amy/Rory) Ponds! Rory! This is silly and witty and makes wonderful use of all of Rory's flailiness but it is also a lovely, lovely look at how Rory loves Amy more than anything ever and it makes me smile a lot. <3333

[x] bop_radar | Vid insta!rec: Welcome Home: I'm yet to see most of the treasures from Vividcon, but must insta!rec barkley's Welcome Home, a Friday Night Lights ensemble vid for all five seasons. It reminds me why I love the show so much, why I love the characters (Tyra, Matt, Tim, Vince, Jess, Tami ... etc) and why I love vidding. May our hearts soar us high as these kids!

[x] smittywing | OMG, What?: If you (like me) are not at Vividcon right now, you need to go watch THIS VID. And then scroll down past the lyrics and read the notes in case you are in denial about the last scene. Seriously, if someone told me this is how Smallville ended, I would totally believe you.

[x] talitha78 | Vividcon 2011: Tears and Laughter: For a sense of the emotional spectrum that we experienced this year, watch absolutedestiny's Up vid, May I Suggest, which will bring the tears, and check out the world-altering Clark/Lex vid I Swear by dualbunny, greensilver, and sweetestdrain, which will bring yet more tears, but of laughter this time.

[x] bluemeridian | The Absolutely-Must-Rec-These-Now Post: The second item is the vid -- a Smallville vid, to be precise. My Delicious bookmark is filled with caps locks along the lines of OH. MY. GOD. This just premiered this weekend at Vividcon and I would have loved to actually see it in a room full of fangirls for the first time. I'm pretty sure no one could breathe by the end because they were laughing too hard, but it would have been memorable to say the very least! This is the Smallville AU vid to watch - not only is it well made, it's... oh god. Watch it. (What do you mean there were never Kryptonite unicorns on Smallville? Are you sure?) I Swear | dualbunny, greensilver, & sweetestdrain [Clark/Lex, PG-13] Summary: 12 years later. A Clark/Lex story. [Streaming and Downloads available.]

[x] pouncer | Timmy's down the bloody well: Boy With a Coin, a stunning vid about Ellison and John Henry and Savannah from my beloved Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles. chaila43 took a song that I adore and matched it so well with characters I love and the result had me gasping and teary-eyed by the midpoint. It's truly fantastic and you should look. *nods firmly*

[x] settiai: Vividcon 2011: Sunday and Monday: Oh, the Challenge show. ♥ All of the vids for it were pretty much awesome, but I have to admit that the final one basically stole the con. Clark and Lex got married! And there were unicorns! And mpreg! And a kitten! (The previous two might possibly be related.) And Bruce Wayne! ... no, really, I'm not kidding. At all. About anything. Trust me, you have to go see this vid for yourselves. But, yes, Challenge was kind of awesome, as were Auction vids.

[x] fan_eunice | (no subject): Right now I want to talk about this. And then I stared at the text box for ten minutes trying to think where to go next with 'this' because 'this' was so...indescribable. But, okay, you know absolutedestiny's Up vid that premiered? If you haven't yet seen it please do (have tissues on hand). So there's a moment at the end where Carl is looking at the Adventure Book where Ellie has written Thanks for the adventure, now go have a new one. That. That was Vividcon this year. Old friends paging through the depth and history of this shared experience that will never be the same now that it is permanently altered by the Sandy shaped hole, sometimes through tears and sometimes through laughter, always with love. You. You are important. You are wanted. You are missed. You make my day that much happier. You listened. You laughed. This is what I saw over and over, people not forgetting to say that to each other now. Remembering that it matters. And not forgetting tomorrow, the new faces who bring new memories, new friendships, new connections. Time to have new adventures. Not to replace the old ones, but to honor them. This is the year Vividcon flew under a sea of balloons and came home ready to face what comes next with new friends by our side. And I feel honored to have shared that with you all.

[x] jdjunkie | Gateverse vid rec: kuwdora has produced an amazing SG-1/SGA/SGU vid which premiered at last week's Vividcon. It has a lot to say about the Ancients; ravenholdt I think this is what you've been getting at in recent comments. You'll love this. This is a great piece of vidding from someone who really loves and understands her shows. The music by Linkin Park isn't my customary cup of tea but it is the perfect choice here. Wow.

[x] mresundance: Plant Your Hope with Good Seeds (VVC Con Report): I quite enjoyed buffyann's Doctor Who vid When I Fall Asleep (Fireflies) and killabeez's True Blood vid Personal Jesus. I went to radixiscat's Go West Young Vid show. There were many excellent vids, but the one that struck me was destina's Brokeback Mountain vid Hurt. It was a beautiful, painful and honest character study.  You Told the Drunks I Knew Karate (Dr. Who) by settiai House by the Sea (Spartacus) by jarrow May I Suggest (Up) by absolutedestiny Roll with the Changes (How to Train Your Dragon) by fan_euniceHigh Voltage (Stargate Universe) by kuwdora I Walked (The Borgias) by lolachrome Thistle and Weeds (Game of Thrones) by sisabet Then I Met You (Star Trek) -- I don't have the link on this one yet. [x] anoel | Vividcon 2011 Con Report: Intro Vid was beautiful, Eric's Song which was wonderful to watch Erik/Charles with a whole audience and May I Suggest...which wow. I knew it was going to make me cry because the movie did that for me and absolutedestiny is great at that kind of thing but my GOD, I finally gave in 3/4 through and then it just totally wrecked me emotionally. As it did EVERYONE. I have never seen a vid that made everyone cry like that ... The second part of Premieres was also great and I was particularly blown away by Thistle and Weeds where I was a bit spoiled by the ending but liked it better that way as it was a shock. Challenge vids. I really loved seeing the slideshow Kirk/Spock vid, Then I Met You with the audience and then of course there was I Swear...wow. It was the PERFECT vid to watch with a VVC audience, let me tell you. I was awwing, laughing, crying FROM laughter and it kept topping itself over and over. Classic vid watching experience of what I haven't gone through since We Built This City. Definitely one of the best vids and in my top two of the con. Also enjoyed the auction vids, particularly the Friday Night Lights vid, Burning Bridges at the end which thankfully I did not get spoiled for since it was just early seasons.

[x] roga: I was going to maybe do stuff this eveni: Via xenakis (and I assume many other people, as I gather these are kiiiinda popular), two vids from this year's Vividcon: Up vid: May I Suggest by absolutedestiny which brought tears to my eyes and was so beautifully edited, and a Smallville Clex vid: I swear by dualbunny, greensilver and sweetestdrain, which cracked my up so much, and I was never into Clex, okay, but if you are in any kind of fandom you can find this hilarious, because LOL seriously.

[x] anonymous_rex | Catbaby wtf: Lots of us weren't at Vividcon, so we don't know about the other, super-amazing vids. Links or we'll keep posting about it!! Kryptonite unicorn! Leverage / White Collar crossover vid of gleeful crime to Shirley Bassey singing Get This Party Started! Have some Dhoom 2! Apparently Taio Cruz + Bollywood flick randomly set in Rio + Criminal shenanigans that make no sense = Awwwwwesome  And a really sweet, funny Amy and Rory vid about not only how much they love each other, but how goony and ridiculous they are together called You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate  Whatever. Catbaby was totally the most awesome! Keep posting! OK, ok. Honestly, a big part of it is that it's both distinctive and the kind of thing where almost the whole room laughs itself sick at once, which sticks with you. Lots of other vids were good but were less generally accessible or are the sort of complex, serious vids that are hard to take in when you only watch them once in a room full of people. The Spartacus vid and especially the ASOIAF vid that went to in-depth review strike me like that. Once people who were at the con have had time to get home and sleep, I'm sure we'll see more posts of people's own and more recs. (A lot of people got back home yesterday, crashed, and are now at work, for example.)  [More cababy]

[x] rhoboat: Vividcon 2011 report: I, too, cried by the end of absolutedestiny's Up vid and was relieved I wasn't the only one. I've also been fangirling kuwdora's Stargate vid High Voltage for so long, and it was so satisfying to see it up on the big screen and received so well. (You guys! She used the bridge of the song for the Replicators!! Genius. ♥) ... cherryice (speaking of whom, watch her Ponies vid - the synced version is SO MUCH BETTER) ... I really adored destina and barkley's V vid. Then there was I Swear, and the reaction was just the most amazing thing to behold and be a part of.

[x] sabaceanbabe | Vividcon 2011: And now for some recs (in the order in which they came up in the vidshows over the whole weekend): For 10 Years… (Intro Vid) - dualbunny made a really great vid introducing the con and the premiere vids and it was just a great thing for a newbie like me. I loved it. You Told the Drunks I Knew Karate by settiai has been recced by so many people, but that’s okay. It deserves it. It’s such a wonderful Rory character study and the song couldn’t be more perfect for the story it tells. Lost Girl: Character Primer by hellpenguin was such a fun vid that I have to know more about these characters and this show. House by the Sea by jarrow was one of my favorite vids of the entire weekend. I have never seen Blood and Sand, but now I kind of want to. The vid is just gorgeous and heartbreaking and still has me thinking about it and wanting to rewatch it even now, days later. Roll with the Changes by fan_eunice is another vid to a source I’ve never seen (How to Train Your Dragon), but I loved it. It made me want to jump up and cheer. Don’t Forget Me by obsessive24 is a character study of Riley Finn from Buffy that just made me ache for him. I liked Riley, but now I feel like I understand Riley. High Voltage by kuwdora is a pretty awesome “character study” of the Ancients and the way they totally screwed with and screwed humanity in at least three galaxies. Thistle and Weeds by sisabet is another vid that has been recced many times, but, again, it deserves it. Along with House by the Sea, it was one of my top favorites of the con. So beautiful and such a clearly told story of a girl growing up and becoming a strong and independent woman and it’s from such a problematic source, but the video is just so powerful. One Foot Wrong by dualbunny is yet another amazing character study, melding the four disparate aspects of the very complex Catwoman as portrayed by Michelle Pfeifer in Batman Returns. Who wouldn’t fall in love with her? Land of Confusion by barkley and destina is a kickass vid for the original V. When the old hand guides the young in painting “V” for victory on the wall, it sent chills down my spine. Shivery good vid! I Swear by dualbunny, greensilver, and sweetestdrain is rightly known as the vid that broke Vividcon. I laughed so hard for so long that I hurt all over. Smallville as it never was! Or is that always was, but TPTB never realized it? Kryptonite unicorns, people! And kittens! Every time I thought it can’t get any more over the top, these three vidders proved me wrong. Every time!

[x] jetpack_monkey | Vividcon 2011 Report: The vids that made me cry or near-cry... So many of them. The Marley and Me vid by fan_eunice totally destroyed me. The Up vid by absolutedestiny , the classic Dante's Prayer Star Trek vid by , the How to Train Your Dragon vid by fan_eunice , the Punky Brewster vid by fan_eunice (I'm sensing a pattern), the frickin' Magnum PI vid by barkley (apparently I'm naturally a weepy person -- so it goes). Also, the Smallville vid of ultimate badfic awesomeness which made me cry tears of laughter, mixed with tears of love (thanks dualbunny, greensilver, and sweetestdrain). When did My Little Pony get awesome? Seriously, this is information I need.  (In particular, the joyful use of zooms and panning in mresundance's Byron vid made me envious).

[x] jetpack_monkey | Vividcon Recs: Many of Them (Part 1 of 2): It's the End of the World as We Know It (Community) by danegen  - My basic reaction to this is Holy crap how am I not watching this show? So that's awesome. Caramelo (Miami Vice) by franzeska - I've never seen Miama Vice, but I didn't need to. The way this vid moves is incredible.  And it tells a great story about a female cop buddy team. You Told the Drunks I Knew Karate (Doctor Who) by settiai - RORY! This is not to say that every Rory vid is excellent. This one, however, is. An adorable story of a boy and his love for a crazy person. Lost Girl (A Character Primer) (Lost Girl) by hellpenguin - This one's a little rough around the edges, but it's adorable and fun and totally sold me on this show. I think that counts as a win. House by the Sea (Spartacus: Blood and Sand) by jarrow  - An emotional journey with a great use of the musicality. Also, damned pretty. May I Suggest (Up) by absolutedestiny  - Dammit. Don't watch this if you don't want to get sniffly. Just the first few notes into my rewatch on the DVD and I was tearing up.  Powerful, powerful stuff, all managed with hard cuts and no effects (at least, not as far as I noticed). Roll with the Changes (How to Train Your Dragon) by fan_eunice - So much awesome in this vid. Eunice just knows how to take you for a rollercoaster of action, adventure, and emotion. This song couldn't be more perfect for the subject. We Rule the World (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) by cherryice - Apparently My Little Ponies are awesome now. This vid told me that. God, I'm gonna have to watch this show now. Don't Forget Me (Buffy) by obsessive24 - The Riley vid you didn't know you needed. Riley's story from his point of view, not Buffy's. Some stupendous use of paralleling images and motion matching. High Voltage (Stargate) by kuwdora - A powerful and comprehensive look at the Ancients influence on the human race in the various Stargate series. Even for a guy like me who missed every arc episode, it's amazing. Thistle and Weeds (Game of Thrones) by sisabet - I don't watch Game of Thrones, but this is just so damn well put together. I can't even start to talk about it. I've already sounded like an idiot once trying to. One Foot Wrong (Batman Returns) by dualbunny - Why aren't there more Catwoman vids? Seriously. Hold On (Whoniverse) by flummery - Perfectly captures the driving energy that is Sarah Jane. What a magical way to end the Premieres show...

[x] jetpack_monkey | Don't Judge Me: I may have just used I Swear as a verb in describing an awful/awesome vid idea I had. As in, I will totally I-Swear this sucker!

[x] jetpack_monkey | One of us! One of us!: Edgar Wright (director, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) used to be a vidder. Not only that, he was a VHS vidder. Here is a post where he talks about his 1993 opus Gun Fetish (and the whole thing is embedded there for your enjoyment): http://www.edgarwrighthere.com/2011/04/04/gun-fetish-1993/ It's nice to see a vidder who eventually went on to actually make movies. I wonder how many other vidders went on to work in the film industry?

[x] anonymous_rex | Other fanvids like lim's?: Other fanvids like lim's? I really don't know very much about vids, and I don't watch a lot of them. From what I have seen, the only ones that interested me were the vids by lim (http://blip.tv/lim/), who uses a lot of video effects and makes alterations to the footage used in the videos. Does anyone know of other vidders who do this? Any fandom is good, definitely doesn't have to be Western media. Re: Other fanvids like lim's? Lots of AMVs do this a lot. It kind of depends on which exact sorts of effects you're thinking of. This one does some good things with multiple images, colors, sparkles, and reversing footage: fanlore.org/wiki/Another_Sunday Re: Other fanvids like lim's? Luminosity's 300 vid to Vogue might interest you. It does a pretty fantastic job of turning an OTT action movie into a dance video, while making an underlying commentary about subverting male gaze.

[x] par_avion | PONIES!: I highly suggest that you download the propery-synched version of Cherry's We Rule the World because everything pops more when it's synched! And ponies are fun and happy and awesome.

[x] talitha78: Friday Night Lights Vid Rec: I still need to squee over the Friday Night Lights vid that ohsemantics made for me. As soon as I won her talents at the Help Japan auction, I knew I wanted to request this: a Tim Riggins vid to Mumford & Sons' The Cave. Yes, I know Mumford & Sons is almost cliche at this point, as far as vidding is concerned. I don't care. I love this song, and I knew it would be perfect for Tim. And, lo, it is! ohsemantics just knocked it out of the park--this is exactly the vid I wanted. She hit all the high points of his character arc, she included all of the relationships that are important to him, and she kept the whole thing to just over 2 minutes. Tailor-made for me, long-time subscriber to Short Attention Span Theater! LOL. Anyway, here it is, for everyone to enjoy:

[x] Reality Is For Those Who Lack Imagination - Rec: X Men First Class: Rolling In The Deep Vidder: arefadedaway Fandom: X Men First Class Pairing: Charles/Erik Summary: And I will always be there, old friend. Throw your soul through every open door Count your blessings to find what you look for Turn my sorrow into treasured gold You pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow I literally only just bought this sone from itunes yesterday, so I nearly squealed in delight when I saw an X Men vid recced that used it. [x] killabeez | Squee, squee, recs, and squee: Feel It In My Bones by greensilver (Vampire Diaries to Tegan and Sara, Damon/Stefan/Elena) We watched this again last night, and I adored it every bit as much as I had in the Premieres show. This goofy show and their pretty, pretty faces just make me so happy. Also, I completely agree with sisabet that if you look closely enough, you will see the clip where Damon and Stefan make out. I swear, it was there!

[x] anatsuno: Vividcon vid rec: High Voltage (SGA/SG-1/SGU) by Kuwdora: kuwdora: [Vividcon 2011 Premiere]: High Voltage (SGA/SG-1/SGU). This pulls footage from the whole fo the SG canon to tell a story about / tell the story of the Ancients, and it's incredible. I feel like I will need to rewatch it many times to pull together all the threads and peel back all the layers of this vid. And I'll enjoy every minute of it. Seriously: run, don't walk.

[x] anatsuno: 2 more vid recs :): Going through folders of vids I have perhaps not watched as closely as I thought I should, I just came across Pornstar Dancing, by Jayne L aka serrico, which is damn funny and sexy (enough skin to be NSFW). So I thought I should rec it! It made me chair dance and grin and clap. Hey, while I'm at it, SGA peeps, I hope you've seen bironic's Anything For You team vid? It will make you laugh and, if you're anything like me, tear up with love.
