But it is still a good recap and like Dean says in the end, the monsters should be afraid of them. And going into these last two episodes, I think that statement still holds true. Now that Castiel has turned to the dark side, he better be very afraid. It will be an interesting ride. This vid is by JessicaRae24, and the song used is titled 'Unstoppable.' [x] metallidean_grl - Video of the Week: I was going to post a Dean/Lisa themed video, but then upon going through some different vids I came across this Dean-centered vid, which describes him so well, so I have to post this one instead. The vidder is Novembers Guest. Not only do I love her fics, she does pretty good vids as well. This vid is basically a character-study of Dean. The song used is 'Stand' by Rascal Flats. I have always admired Dean's ability to continue to keep going, to stand-up after he has been knocked around, physically as well as emotionally, and boy, did he get knocked around in the last two episodes. And yet, our beautiful, wonderful Dean, continues to get back up. So, this vid is in honor of our beloved Dean Winchester. The vidders comments about this vid are as follows: Dean's extraordinary perseverance, sense of right and wrong and devotion to his brother made it possible for Sam to resist Lucifer. Though the last few years have been hard on Dean--caused him to doubt himself, his brother and God--none of the stands he took were wasted and at the end of it all, he's still standing. Enjoy!!!

[x] Pig fur won't do; I'll wrap myself in salamander-skin like Presbyter John. - Quick vid rec: Here's the thing: I'm not a huge Amy Pond fan. I don't hate her, I'm just a little apathetic about her character. That being said, this vid is the best thing ever. such_heights has set it to Vienna Teng's Blue Caravan, a haunting, melancholic song with an distanced, beautiful mythos all of its own, bringing Amy into an intensely meditative role, searching for the key that will make sense of her nonsensical life. It's a masterful mesh of Doctor Who's (S5) fairy tale universe with another fairy tale world, and is fast becoming one of my favorite vids. True, there's little of brazen Amy here - but I think this side of her is one that needs more exploring. This Amy is one I could really love. In short, this is perfect - visually, intellectually, and emotionally gorgeous. Go watch, even if you don't love Amy. Maybe especially if you don't love Amy.

[x] I love you. Let's gather firewood. - Day 12 - A relationship vid you love: No One Would Riot for Less by frey_at_last I think Frey's own vid synopsis says it best: This is The X-Files to me. War, doom, loss, love. NOWRFL demonstrates the principle that perfection is achieved when there's nothing left to take away. In terms of editing, it's easily the simplest vid in my favorites folder, yet it's that simplicity which allows it to be so starkly poignant. I love the ways the vid draws associations between the lyrics and the source clips, with much of the vid making sense on a strangely evocative or metaphorical level, yet without any of it seeming the least bit abstruse. It doesn't hurt that the song is so exqusite. I don't know what more to say about this vid. It's subtle, it's heartbreaking, it's profound, and it might be the only XF fanvid I've seen that I feel does Mulder and Scully absolute justice. I'd be hard pressed to ever choose just one XF vid to keep, but if I had to choose two, this would always be one of them. Technically this is not strictly a relationship vid, but Mulder and Scully are the lense through which we see the entire story. The X-Files are inherent to who Mulder and Scully are, and Mulder and Scully shape what the X-Files are to us. It certainly feels like a relationship vid to me. Clear the Area by astartexx I think Clear the Area is the most canonically accurate Mulder/Scully fanvid I've seen. It doesn't strike me as fanon interpretation. It's scope, focus, and mood are all very similar to the show. It is about Scully, Mulder, and their relationship - professional partners who love each other, two people embroiled in something complicated and massive and dangerous, often at odds, never at peace. If I graded this vid I would give it a solid A+. At no point does it flat out break my heart with awe, yet there's no part of it that isn't excellent. Tonally, technically, cohesively it all just works. Interestingly, this is also not technically a relationship vid. Astarte describes it as a Scully vid, but I think the way it is structured makes it seem to be eq

It's a character study of Cas, his relationship with Dean and the fallout from 6.17. Brings up the question that's been raging rampant all over my f-list: will Dean ever forgive Cas if this soul business is about Sam? Gorgeous, gorgeous juxtapositioning of quotes and clips and music. It's hard to imagine that you haven't seen the second one, but on the off chance that you've missed it: What Dreams May Come by maichan808 (Five Pairings) Why you should click on the link without delay: Because this vid is beautiful. It explores love and loss through five different pairings across a variety of fandoms including Sam/Dean, Dom/Mal from Inception, Tom/Summer from (500) Days of Summer, George/Jim from A Single Man and Thomás/Francisco from Do Começo ao Fim. The way that maichan blends the different pairings, guh. It just sweeps you along in such a gorgeous way. The transitions, the clips she uses, the music. It's all sheer perfection.

[x] The Inner Musings of a Lifetime Pessimist - stuck inside these walls, tell me there is hope for me...: OMG, YOU GUYS. I JUST SAW BEAUTY INCARNATE. So, about four months ago, I first heard this lovely song called I'm in Here, by Sia, which everyone seemed to be vidding for in every fandom imaginable. BUT NO ONE HAD VIDDED FOR THE ONE FANDOM WHERE THE SONG MADE THE MOST SENSE. That fandom being Life on Mars. I mean, really...it sounded to me like Sia was watching the show when she wrote the song because the lyrics were too perfect for Sam Tyler and his heartbreaking story. So, naturally I thought this should be remedied. The next time I saw my best friend quirkyoppossum , I played the song for her and told her that I thought it was perfect for Sam and LoM. She agreed with me. As soon as time permitted, she started working on it. Two months later, she's finally finished it. She put a lot of effort into it, and my GOD, does it show. This video is absolute perfection, you guys. It has to be one of my absolute favourites by her. If you've never seen Life on Mars, watch the vid anyway because you can follow it pretty easily. And you'll fall completely in love with Sam just through this vid alone. My poor lonely, displaced cop. *hugs him* Marvel at the beauty, you guys. MARVEL, I TELL YOU.

[x] I love you. Let's gather firewood. - Day 10 - A vid that makes you laugh: I Kissed a Girl by bop_radar Ahahahaha! Katy Perry's infectious but vapid break out hit gets turned on its ear. Clark kisses, fools around, and generally gets it on with girls. Lots and lots of girls. I'm not sure what this vid is poking fun at more, the heteronormativity of Smallville, or the equally avid slash contingent of the Smallville fandom. I'm also not sure if Clark comes out of this vid looking more gay, more straight, or somehow just more of a man toy than he did before. Favorite moments: Clark bump-n-grinding like a spaz to the lyric, lost my discretion, and the switch from a girl to Lex (holding a pool cue for god's sake!) over the lyric, it's not what - I'm used to. I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks by obsessive24 Poking fun at fandom's slashiness and canon's heterosexuality simultaneously seems to be an ongoing practise in the vidding world, so I guess it's not strange that my second vid rec today is kind of similar to my first in that regard. This is the Winchester brothers as seen by geeky, less than studly Chuck (whose character I know nothing about). There's not much of a commentary in this vid, it's pretty much just endless slash insinuations and phallic symbols. I'm a little bit tentative about personally backing this vid too strongly, because I can see how it could be found offensive. I don't think it's the vid, though, so much as the song which gives me pause. If anything the vid is poking fun at everything including the song.

[x] raveninthewind | TSN Vid Rec: Exit Wounds by Ellie/ (flashingfly): This is one of my favorite TSN vids. I don't normally like it when dialog is used in a vid, but this vidder handles the movie audio perfectly. One thing I like about this vid is the timeline of events--it starts with the betrayal, and mostly deals with it from Eduardo's POV and chaotic feelings and memories, but the end is from Mark's viewpoint as he's left alone. The brief scenes of happy times are a shock juxtaposed against the shattered friendship, and they are the frame for the change in perspective. The song lyrics somehow fit both characters because of the cuts and scenes chosen. For such a short vid, this packs a punch and is skillfully executed.

I have seen a LOT of vids for this show, but this vid feels so fresh that every clip felt new, and newly freighted with context. The vid encompasses Angel's entire history and emphasizes the chain of consequences connecting each plot point to the next, seamlessly and with all the annoying bits taken out. Go see.

Anyways, I'm very bad at analyzing what it is I like about vids, so suffice to say this vid is awesome and you should watch it. Even if, like me, you don't know Smallville in the slightest. This is a vid that is basically about awesome ladies and how awesome they are, and every time I watch it I get totally caught up in the sheer quantity of awesome. And I watch it a lot. I recognize probably less than half of the ladies in it, but it doesn't even MATTER. Because it is glorious. Your Life (extempore), by lim. Doctor Who. Amy, Doctor, Vincent Van Gogh. This vid -- oh, it just really gets at the heart of what the episode was about. The joy and the tragedy, and how the joy still matters. It's beautiful. I have always admired Dean's ability to continue to keep going, to stand-up after he has been knocked around, physically as well as emotionally, and boy, did he get knocked around in the last two episodes. And yet, our beautiful, wonderful Dean, continues to get back up. So, this vid is in honor of our beloved Dean Winchester. [x] Pig fur won't do; I'll wrap myself in salamander-skin like Presbyter John. - Quick vid rec: Here's the thing: I'm not a huge Amy Pond fan. I don't hate her, I'm just a little apathetic about her character. That being said, this vid is the best thing ever. such_heights has set it to Vienna Teng's Blue Caravan, a haunting, melancholic song with an distanced, beautiful mythos all of its own, bringing Amy into an intensely meditative role, searching for the key that will make sense of her nonsensical life. It's a masterful mesh of Doctor Who's (S5) fairy tale universe with another fairy tale world, and is fast becoming one of my favorite vids. True, there's little of brazen Amy here - but I think this side of her is one that needs more exploring. This Amy is one I could really love. In short, this is perfect - visually, intellectually, and emotionally gorgeous. Go watch, even if you don't love Amy. Maybe especially if you don't love Amy.

[x] I love you. Let's gather firewood. - Day 12 - A relationship vid you love: No One Would Riot for Less by frey_at_last I think Frey's own vid synopsis says it best: This is The X-Files to me. War, doom, loss, love. NOWRFL demonstrates the principle that perfection is achieved when there's nothing left to take away. In terms of editing, it's easily the simplest vid in my favorites folder, yet it's that simplicity which allows it to be so starkly poignant. I love the ways the vid draws associations between the lyrics and the source clips, with much of the vid making sense on a strangely evocative or metaphorical level, yet without any of it seeming the least bit abstruse. It doesn't hurt that the song is so exqusite. I don't know what more to say about this vid. It's subtle, it's heartbreaking, it's profound, and it might be the only XF fanvid I've seen that I feel does Mulder and Scully absolute justice. I'd be hard pressed to ever choose just one XF vid to keep, but if I had to choose two, this would always be one of them. Technically this is not strictly a relationship vid, but Mulder and Scully are the lense through which we see the entire story. The X-Files are inherent to who Mulder and Scully are, and Mulder and Scully shape what the X-Files are to us. It certainly feels like a relationship vid to me. Clear the Area by astartexx I think Clear the Area is the most canonically accurate Mulder/Scully fanvid I've seen. It doesn't strike me as fanon interpretation. It's scope, focus, and mood are all very similar to the show. It is about Scully, Mulder, and their relationship - professional partners who love each other, two people embroiled in something complicated and massive and dangerous, often at odds, never at peace. If I graded this vid I would give it a solid A+. At no point does it flat out break my heart with awe, yet there's no part of it that isn't excellent. Tonally, technically, cohesively it all just works. Interestingly, this is also not technically a relationship vid. Astarte describes it as a Scully vid, but I think the way it is structured makes it seem to be eq

[x] August - Drive-by Vid Recs: It Is What It Is by ashdoode (Dean/Cas) Why you should click on the link without delay: 'I was only looking for the short cut home', this vid, it breaks me. It's a character study of Cas, his relationship with Dean and the fallout from 6.17. Brings up the question that's been raging rampant all over my f-list: will Dean ever forgive Cas if this soul business is about Sam? Gorgeous, gorgeous juxtapositioning of quotes and clips and music. It's hard to imagine that you haven't seen the second one, but on the off chance that you've missed it: What Dreams May Come by maichan808 (Five Pairings) Why you should click on the link without delay: Because this vid is beautiful. It explores love and loss through five different pairings across a variety of fandoms including Sam/Dean, Dom/Mal from Inception, Tom/Summer from (500) Days of Summer, George/Jim from A Single Man and Thomás/Francisco from Do Começo ao Fim. The way that maichan blends the different pairings, guh. It just sweeps you along in such a gorgeous way. The transitions, the clips she uses, the music. It's all sheer perfection.

[x] The Inner Musings of a Lifetime Pessimist - stuck inside these walls, tell me there is hope for me...: OMG, YOU GUYS. I JUST SAW BEAUTY INCARNATE. So, about four months ago, I first heard this lovely song called I'm in Here, by Sia, which everyone seemed to be vidding for in every fandom imaginable. BUT NO ONE HAD VIDDED FOR THE ONE FANDOM WHERE THE SONG MADE THE MOST SENSE. That fandom being Life on Mars. I mean, really...it sounded to me like Sia was watching the show when she wrote the song because the lyrics were too perfect for Sam Tyler and his heartbreaking story. So, naturally I thought this should be remedied. The next time I saw my best friend quirkyoppossum , I played the song for her and told her that I thought it was perfect for Sam and LoM. She agreed with me. As soon as time permitted, she started working on it. Two months later, she's finally finished it. She put a lot of effort into it, and my GOD, does it show. This video is absolute perfection, you guys. It has to be one of my absolute favourites by her. If you've never seen Life on Mars, watch the vid anyway because you can follow it pretty easily. And you'll fall completely in love with Sam just through this vid alone. My poor lonely, displaced cop. *hugs him* Marvel at the beauty, you guys. MARVEL, I TELL YOU.

[x] Bowties Are Cool! - Happy Holidays! and Vid Rec: Castle I am not sure whether I want to hug this vid, Nathan or Richard but then again it doesn't matter. This vid is simply wonderful and will make any Castle/Nathan Fillon fan smile and giggle Blue Suede Shoes by Doctor Who My oh my. The lyrics are spot on and the editing great. The vid focuses on Martha, River and Rose....in that order. Anywhere on this Road by theanonsisters and since I have to do something for one of my ships: two very pretty River/Eleven vids I found. One of them featuring yet again Gravity by Sara Bareilles. That song is turning into something of an unofficial theme for those two. [x] I love you. Let's gather firewood. - Day 10 - A vid that makes you laugh: I Kissed a Girl by bop_radar Ahahahaha! Katy Perry's infectious but vapid break out hit gets turned on its ear. Clark kisses, fools around, and generally gets it on with girls. Lots and lots of girls. I'm not sure what this vid is poking fun at more, the heteronormativity of Smallville, or the equally avid slash contingent of the Smallville fandom. I'm also not sure if Clark comes out of this vid looking more gay, more straight, or somehow just more of a man toy than he did before. Favorite moments: Clark bump-n-grinding like a spaz to the lyric, lost my discretion, and the switch from a girl to Lex (holding a pool cue for god's sake!) over the lyric, it's not what - I'm used to. I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks by obsessive24 Poking fun at fandom's slashiness and canon's heterosexuality simultaneously seems to be an ongoing practise in the vidding world, so I guess it's not strange that my second vid rec today is kind of similar to my first in that regard. This is the Winchester brothers as seen by geeky, less than studly Chuck (whose character I know nothing about). There's not much of a commentary in this vid, it's pretty much just endless slash insinuations and phallic symbols. I'm a little bit tentative about personally backing this vid too strongly, because I can see how it could be found offensive. I don't think it's the vid, though, so much as the song which gives me pause. If anything the vid is poking fun at everything including the song.

[x] raveninthewind | TSN Vid Rec: Exit Wounds by Ellie/ (flashingfly): This is one of my favorite TSN vids. I don't normally like it when dialog is used in a vid, but this vidder handles the movie audio perfectly. One thing I like about this vid is the timeline of events--it starts with the betrayal, and mostly deals with it from Eduardo's POV and chaotic feelings and memories, but the end is from Mark's viewpoint as he's left alone. The brief scenes of happy times are a shock juxtaposed against the shattered friendship, and they are the frame for the change in perspective. The song lyrics somehow fit both characters because of the cuts and scenes chosen. For such a short vid, this packs a punch and is skillfully executed.

[x] Laura Shapiro - Vid Rec: Angel: obsessive24 is always one to watch, and she delivers big with Falling Down, an Angel vid of epic proportions. I have seen a LOT of vids for this show, but this vid feels so fresh that every clip felt new, and newly freighted with context. The vid encompasses Angel's entire history and emphasizes the chain of consequences connecting each plot point to the next, seamlessly and with all the annoying bits taken out. Go see.

[x] sophia_sol: In which I appreciate fandom.: Objection (Tango), by talitha78. Smallville, Clark/Lex. I've had this vid for months, and have watched it a truly ridiculous number of times. I just keep on returning to it again and again and again. And no, I've never seen a single moment of any Smallville episode. I'm still allowed to like Smallville vids! Anyways, I'm very bad at analyzing what it is I like about vids, so suffice to say this vid is awesome and you should watch it. Even if, like me, you don't know Smallville in the slightest. One Girl Revolution, by arefadedaway. Multifandom. This is a vid that is basically about awesome ladies and how awesome they are, and every time I watch it I get totally caught up in the sheer quantity of awesome. And I watch it a lot. I recognize probably less than half of the ladies in it, but it doesn't even MATTER. Because it is glorious. Your Life (extempore), by lim. Doctor Who. Amy, Doctor, Vincent Van Gogh. This vid -- oh, it just really gets at the heart of what the episode was about. The joy and the tragedy, and how the joy still matters. It's beautiful. (Even if the song does give me flashbacks to elementary and middle school...)
